00:00Hello there welcome to your Wednesday morning weather update from the Met
00:03Office. For many you'll see some outbreaks of rain today with the risk of
00:07showers which could turn thundery towards the south. Now through this
00:11morning fairly quiet across central parts of Scotland, low cloud towards the
00:14east, showers across the north as well as the west extending towards Northern
00:18Ireland. Then we run into this persistent and at times heavy rain across northern
00:22central parts of England, East Anglia as well as much of Wales. To the south we'll
00:26see one or two showery bursts, in fact showers will develop through the day
00:29here they could turn heavy with the risk of thunder. So let's pick up on the
00:34detail through the first part of this morning. There are rain warnings across
00:37much of England and Wales as this rain pushes ever northwards and notice these
00:42bright echoes representing some heavy downpours. With that the winds will pick
00:47up particularly on this east coast as the rain extends towards southern
00:51Scotland by around lunchtime and it's at lunchtime we see that other rain warning
00:56across central southern and eastern parts of Scotland kick in. Now the rain
00:59will be persistent across Wales as well as the Midlands Northern England and in
01:03fact we'll see the highest rainfalls across Northern England and the higher
01:06ground of North Wales could see up to 100 millimetres or so. Elsewhere yes it
01:11turns showery towards the south as I said as rain pivots and moves towards
01:15eastern Scotland through the latter part of the day nudging into the eastern side
01:18of Northern Ireland. Again quite a strong wind coming down this western side of
01:24Scotland towards Northern Ireland. So it's a wet evening to come again there
01:28could be problems on the roads through rush hour, high rainfall total leading to
01:32surface water issues, rivers will be swollen as well the risk of some
01:36localised flooding because this rain will continue to be fairly persistent
01:39particularly across Wales and it will turn wet across Northern Ireland the far
01:43north and west of Scotland. Showery elsewhere and towards the south will see
01:47those showers ease through Wednesday evening into Thursday morning. So through
01:52Thursday most of Scotland seeing rain or showers a similar situation for Northern
01:57Ireland and that rain continues across Wales as well as the North Midlands.
02:01Showery elsewhere towards the south as well as the east you'll see a better day
02:05you'll see some brighter skies coming through as the cloud breaks but these
02:09rain warnings extend through until evening time across Scotland. Temperatures
02:13up a notch in fact that's the theme of the weather through the next few days as
02:17the showers fade away on Friday we'll see some fine weather on Saturday higher
02:21temperatures as well feeling warmer but then a return to showers on Sunday. Stay
02:25tuned to the forecast because the warnings will be updated. I'll see you
02:29later.
