00:00Hello there, welcome to your Thursday morning weather update from the Met Office.
00:05Some lively weather outside this morning in terms of an active cold front bringing squally
00:10rain.
00:11The Met Office has issued warnings for rain and wind.
00:13This is your rain warning extending from the Severn Estuary, central southern England,
00:17all the way up towards Fenlands as well as East Anglia covering London.
00:21And then a wind warning further south.
00:24Gusts here could reach along the coast 60-70mph associated with this rain band, but even across
00:31this area here you could see gusts up to 50mph with any heavier bursts.
00:36Now through this morning a rash of showers continues across the western side of Scotland.
00:40Some showery rain, heavy at times across eastern Scotland down towards northern England and
00:45a few showers running in across Northern Ireland.
00:48But this is this active cold front.
00:50You can see lots of heavy rain associated with it.
00:53We could see one to three hours of heavy rain as we head through the morning.
00:56And more heavy rain weighting the wings moving in from the west country approaching central
01:00southern England.
01:01Some pulses of rain and one or two heavy showers also for eastern counties.
01:06Now as I said this rain is also squally so expect some strong gusts and we could see
01:12some thunder, lightning and hail as well.
01:15Same goes for the showers towards the north.
01:18They could be heavy with snow over the hills and mountains and again the risk of hail and
01:23thunder.
01:24Now through Thursday morning this morning you can see where the rain is.
01:27It's approaching eastern counties so unpleasant conditions if you're driving and then another
01:33pulse just moves in across central southern parts of the country through this afternoon.
01:37Elsewhere some clearance across Wales, northern England, some brighter skies for north east
01:42England, eastern counties of Scotland and these showers running in across northern Ireland
01:47and again there could be heavy wintry over the hills.
01:50A similar situation for the western side of Scotland.
01:52Some frequent bursts here but further showery bursts likely across eastern counties through
01:57the afternoon.
01:58Again some intense pulses likely.
02:01Temperatures struggling a little bit after a bit of a frosty start towards the north.
02:04Temperatures five to six degrees celsius further south at seven or eight.
02:08Eventually that rain clears but replaced by showers across the southwest and further showers
02:14running in on a cold northwest wind across Scotland and northern Ireland.
02:18Few also for northern England.
02:20Snow over the Pennines and a few down towards Wales where again across the Welsh mountains
02:25we could see some wintryness.
02:27Temperatures really taking a tumble through into Friday morning.
02:30The risk of a frost, a cold start to the day.
02:33At least though there'll be some broken cloud through Friday and also some brighter weather
02:38but showers never too far away.
02:41So this is your outlook through Friday.
02:43You may run into a shower pretty much anywhere but the frequent bursts will always be towards
02:47the west and you can see quite wet down towards the southwest of England clipping the south
02:52coast.
02:53Further heavy showers across the north and the west of Scotland.
02:55A few running in also across the central belt where you could see some wet weather around
03:00lunchtime.
03:01A scattered affair when it comes to showers across northern England.
03:04A little sunshine coming through from time to time.
03:07So yes, yet another fairly unsettled day but not the persistent and heavy rain we're likely
03:12to see through Thursday.
03:14But temperatures will be around average leading into a cold day on Saturday but at least there'll
03:20be some sunshine and fewer showers after a frosty start.
03:23Bye bye.
