00:00Hello there, welcome to your Wednesday evening weather update from the Met Office.
00:04A band of rain continues to move north as we head through this evening and overnight,
00:08stalling across northern England and the far north of Wales. There's a rain warning in force
00:12from midnight across Pennines, eastern counties of England. Here's that low pressure system. To
00:17the north, the air is colder, even with a touch of frost in rural Glens as we head through Thursday
00:22morning. And then a rain warning across southern counties of England and Wales, including the
00:26Midlands through the first part of Friday from Thursday evening. And again, the risk of flooding
00:31here and some disruption before things settle down for the weekend. Yes, it's going to be colder,
00:36at least though drier skies, a few showers in the west and also some sunshine coming through.
00:41Let's backtrack now to Wednesday evening. Here's that broad band of rain, some heavy pulses,
00:48the southeast of England, east Anglia, eastern counties towards northern England,
00:51northern Ireland seeing some rain, particularly towards the east as well as northern parts of
00:55Wales. It nudges into the central belt for a time into the early hours of Thursday morning.
01:00But with this onshore breeze here, most of that rain is going to fall across Pennines as well as
01:06eastern counties of England. So some heavy rain here, higher rainfall totals through the next 24
01:12hours as it continues to fall. So temperatures will be low in the north, a cold start to the
01:18day, coastal showers, but also with some sunshine, you can see some clearer skies here. Further south
01:24through into Thursday morning, showers will develop and move in across southern counties,
01:29the risk of some heavy downpours here, a gusty wind and even the chance of thunder. So as we
01:35head through Thursday morning, you can see where the worst the weather is. This rain is going to
01:39be relentless, showery for northern Ireland, brighter skies across central and western areas
01:44has gotten with showers in the far north and these showers will be heavy across southern counties,
01:49developing in land as well. Now through the afternoon tomorrow, notice this rain is slowly
01:54sliding its way southwards. So some drier weather comes in across the far north of England and
02:00certainly some brighter skies to end the day across northern Ireland and the central belt of
02:03Scotland. Whereas further south, it's a mix of rain or heavy showers. So here's your warning
02:09zone, which actually remains in force until midnight. Temperatures in the south and any
02:13sunshine, 18 degrees Celsius, but cold winds across the north, a biting wind here, and this
02:19wind will extend right the way down the country as we head through from Thursday into Friday.
02:23Before that, though, let's pick up on the rain across England and Wales. It's likely to
02:28reinvigorate as we head through into Friday morning. So this warning will be live throughout
02:34Thursday evening into Friday morning, where we could see some localised flooding. Rush hour could
02:39be tricky with surface water, poor visibility, heavy downpours and also that risk of flooding
02:45continues into the first part of the day and then brighter skies as the worst of this rain and
02:50showers eventually clears towards the low country. So an improving picture here, but feeling cold in
02:55that wind, a few showers dotted around, particularly along the coast, but inland, we'll see some
03:00brightening weather. Your outlook then through Saturday. Well, through Saturday and Sunday,
03:05we do have a ridge of high pressure, which is good news. Fleeting showers can't be ruled out
03:09towards the west. The cloud will come and go in the north, but some brighter weather and some
03:14brighter skies with some sunshine further south as well as southeast. Temperatures here, though,
03:18only 15 Celsius, feeling cold in that wind towards the north. But the winds will slowly ease through
03:23Saturday morning into the afternoon, and that leads into a cold night on Saturday night with
03:29the risk of some grass frost, if not a touch of air frost. And what that means through Sunday,
03:35yet again, some drier weather, some brighter conditions, temperatures struggling,
03:40all change, though, through Sunday and into Monday from the west. More details about that,
03:45check out our 10-day trend this week with Alex Deakin. I'll see you later.
