00:00Hi there, the weather is staying hot in many places over the next few days, but with that
00:05heat there is an increased risk in places of thunderstorms. Any thunderstorms overnight
00:11will be fairly isolated and mostly towards western areas. You can see this cluster of
00:15showers moving up into the Irish Sea and another area of showers perhaps across other western
00:21parts of England into Wales. Now, much of the rain won't reach the ground because they'll
00:25be falling from a very high-based cloud, but there is the risk of frequent lightning associated
00:31with these. They will be isolated. They'll be very hit and miss for many places. It will
00:36stay dry overnight. There will be some low cloud again around some of these North Sea
00:41coasts, especially for eastern and south-eastern Scotland, north-east England. Otherwise, it's
00:46a warm night to come, 19, 20, 21 Celsius in places. Then, into Thursday morning, we've
00:54still got those showers moving up across western parts of the UK. I wouldn't take the
00:58position of this literally, but it just highlights that risk of thundery showers and lightning,
01:04big drops of rain and so on. By the afternoon, that threat is mostly across west and south-west
01:10Scotland as well as Northern Ireland. Elsewhere across the UK, although there will be some
01:14cloud associated with these showers, there will be plenty of blue skies as well, particularly
01:19towards the south-east and the north-west of Scotland and temperatures widely in the
01:23mid to high 20s, 30 to 32 Celsius, once again, across central and south-east England. But
01:29even across west and north-west Scotland, it's possible that we'll see 27 or 28 Celsius.
01:36We've still got that low cloud keeping things a bit cooler on some of these North Sea beaches,
01:40but mostly it will be on the immediate coast. That, again, continues to creep in as the
01:45sun goes down. On Thursday night, and any showers across Scotland and Northern Ireland
01:50tend to drift north. Then a clear night for many, but another remarkably warm night for
01:57the time of year with temperatures in the high teens, even low 20s for much of the night
02:02in places. The north-east will be a bit cooler, but even here, temperatures above average
02:07overnight compared with the time of year. Now, we start off Friday with a bit more extensive
02:12low cloud, a fret and higher across these North Sea coasts. Also, some low cloud around
02:18south-western shores and, once again, the chance of some thundery showers turning up
02:23towards the far south-west. But elsewhere across the UK, it's sunny skies and that warmth
02:29continues. Very similar temperatures actually on Friday compared with Thursday for many,
02:34I think a bit warmer towards the north-east. But otherwise, the afternoon high in the UK
02:39reaching 30 to 32 Celsius. Then into the weekend, it turns even hotter for a brief period on
02:47Saturday as low pressure to the west reorientates itself so that we draw up another renewed pulse
02:54of heat from the south, especially for south-east England. Fresher conditions into the north-west
02:58with some showery rain associated with a system which will then cross the UK from the north-west
03:05during Sunday and into Monday. It's slowest to reach the south-east of England, so the
03:11heat holds on until the start of next week there, but across much of the UK. The weather
03:17will break down. Thundery showers are possible by the start of next week and it will certainly
03:22feel much cooler as temperatures return closer to average. But for the time being, we've got
03:28a lot of hot sunshine over the next few days, temperatures peaking on Saturday
03:33at 33 Celsius or possibly a touch more in the south-east.
