00:00Hi there, a spell of rain for all of us today and as that rain moves east in
00:04some places there will be snow followed by blustery showers albeit with some
00:09bright spells as well. A lot of cloud though on the satellite image from
00:13earlier in the day and the radar shows the outbreaks of rain crossing the
00:17country and that rain turning to snow over some central northern parts of the
00:21UK primarily hills but not exclusively and looking ahead to early afternoon
00:26there's the chance of some wet snow for Lincolnshire, parts of Yorkshire mostly
00:30this will be settling I think over the hills and it does move through so that
00:34by the end of the afternoon it's brighter skies but with blustery showers
00:39and gales in places around exposed northern and western coasts for example
00:43and those showers are really packing a punch with hail in places and further
00:48hill snow where those showers move in to North Wales, Northern England, Scotland
00:52and Northern Ireland. It's going to feel quite cold out there especially in the east
00:56temperatures struggling four to five Celsius a bit milder further west but
01:01with that wind obviously and those showers rattling through not
01:04particularly pleasant. Into the evening and the showers continue for a time the
01:08wind also continues to blow those showers eastwards but eventually the
01:11showers become more restricted to western coasts and in many places they
01:15die away altogether with winds easing and skies clearing a widespread frost
01:20forming particularly in central and eastern parts of the UK with
01:24temperatures dipping a few degrees below freezing in the countryside. Meanwhile
01:28further west the cloud builds and so temperatures begin to rise by the end
01:31of the night for Northern Ireland for parts of West Wales into the southwest
01:36and it's here where we're going to see storm Barra arrive for Tuesday. This is a
01:41rapidly deepening area of low pressure as it approaches Ireland on Monday night
01:46and it was met error in that named storm Barra because of the largest
01:50impacts are expected over the Republic of Ireland but nevertheless it will
01:54bring a spell of strong winds and heavy rain and in some places snow through
01:59Tuesday and into Wednesday. So initially a cold but bright start for many but in
02:04the west soon turning wet and windy that rain pushing into Wales the southwest
02:08and as it arrives into Northern Ireland there'll be some snow mainly over the
02:12higher ground again but in some places at lower levels particularly to the east
02:16the winds will be picking up through the morning as well gales widely in the
02:21west and coastal gales reaching 60 to 70 mile per hour wind gusts. The rain then
02:28moves into central and northern parts of the UK followed by brighter skies but
02:33blustery showers and it's a cold day especially in the north and the east
02:37after that chilly start as that rain sets in it is going to be feeling chilly
02:42cold enough in fact for widespread hill snow for Northern England into Scotland
02:47as well a significant spell of hill snow with two to five centimeters above 200
02:52meters and much more over the higher ground with 10 to 20 centimeters over
02:58some of the higher routes that's accompanied by gales likely to lead to
03:03blizzards in places and drifting snow so some really treacherous conditions I
03:07think by the end of Tuesday across Northern England and across parts of
03:10Scotland as well. Further west those showers continued to spiral in across
03:15Northern Ireland Wales and increasingly central and southern England the wind
03:20stays strong here and it stays very unsettled on Wednesday as well but
03:24eventually the weather turns a bit quieter on Thursday and Friday so a lot
03:29going on over the next 24 to 48 hours and the best way to stay in touch with
03:33the weather forecast of course is to follow the Met Office on social media
03:37bye bye
