00:00Hello, during the next 24 hours we replace the easterly winds that we've seen over the
00:04last few days with northerlies. Those northerlies will bring snow for some, but for many actually
00:10it's simply going to be colder but brighter weather on the way. The cloudy conditions
00:15the easterlies brought, still with us in some places, southwest England for example, and
00:20for some central parts. But as the northerlies arrive, the cloud will increasingly break
00:25up and brighter skies developing in the south and of course western parts. And although
00:30it's brighter, it will feel colder, 5, 6, 7 Celsius in the south, 4 or 5 in the north.
00:36And those northerlies also bringing showers, mainly rain and hills now for northern Scotland,
00:42rain for northern Ireland as well as eastern England. But it's going to feel cold in that
00:47wind, it feels like temperatures more like the low single figures. Then into Tuesday
00:51evening we keep those clearer spells across central and western areas. Still some areas
00:56of cloud pushing into northern Ireland, eastern England, northern Scotland and in northern
01:01Scotland the showers increasingly falling as snow even to lower levels by the end of
01:06the night as the northerlies bring cold arctic air. So minus 2 Celsius in the far north and
01:12actually where we've got the clear spells across western parts of the country, some
01:16places could dip to minus 3 to minus 6 Celsius. But even in towns and cities we're looking
01:22at 1 to minus 1 Celsius fairly widely. A cold but crisp start to Wednesday for many then.
01:29There will be some areas of cloud in the east and the north, but really it's for most a
01:35brighter day compared with recent days because when you get winds from the north you tend
01:39to get clearer skies. However, those winds are also carrying quite a few showers and
01:44it's windward coasts where we're going to see the bulk of those showers. Northern Ireland,
01:48eastern England as well, some Irish sea coasts seeing showers and they'll mainly be consisting
01:53of rain at this stage with snow over hills, so for example the North York Moors. But across
01:57northern Scotland those showers are falling as snow and the snow will build up during
02:01Wednesday with 2 to 5 centimetres at lower levels. More than that over the hills could
02:05cause some disruption. Away from the showery areas for most actually it's just a bright
02:11but crisp day and certainly we're going to feel the chill, temperatures a couple of degrees
02:15lower compared with Tuesday. 4 or 5 in the south, 0 to 3 Celsius in the north where we've
02:20got some snow cover, where we've got a bit of elevation, temperatures at best minus 1
02:26to minus 3 Celsius. So a cold day to come on Wednesday, it's going to turn even colder
02:31than that later in the week, but certainly on Wednesday night so widespread frost developing
02:36across the bulk of the UK. We've still got some cloud and some showers pushing into northern
02:40Ireland as well as western Wales and further showers to come for northern Scotland and
02:45eastern England. These showers for many away from northern Scotland again will be falling
02:49as rain and sleet with some hill snow, but there's a chance of some icy patches as we
02:54start off Thursday, that's something to look out for, otherwise a widespread frost is staying
02:57cold into the weekend.
