00:00Hello again, a gloomy Christmas Eve for many of us, a lot of cloud covering the UK, some
00:06rain in places as well and we even saw some hill snow across northern parts of Scotland
00:12earlier in the day. The cold air in the north is sinking south but milder air further south
00:18is moving north and two weather fronts marking that difference, well they're going to meet
00:23in the middle somewhere during the next 24 hours. So big contrast in the weather and
00:28the temperature across the UK this weekend. And on Christmas Eve itself, a spell of rain
00:34for south-western and then central parts of the UK, that moving closer to Northern Ireland
00:40by the end of the afternoon on Christmas Eve. Brightening skies meanwhile for northern Scotland,
00:45the sun comes out here after that gloomy start but it's cold here and some snow showers are
00:49expected for Shetland. Brightening skies also for Cornwall, much milder here, 12 or 13 Celsius
00:57and in between fairly chilly for parts of northern England, southern Scotland, a lot
01:02of low cloud and some areas of light rain and drizzle. The two weather fronts meet then
01:08in the middle, Christmas Eve night, damp and gloomy for Northern Ireland into parts of
01:13northern England, North Wales, the Midlands and East Anglia. Outbreaks of mainly light
01:18rain on and off. Further south some heavier downpours push back into South Wales and the
01:22south-west. Meanwhile, it stays cold and clear with a widespread frost for much of
01:28Scotland and in sheltered rural parts as temperatures well below freezing as we start off the big
01:35day. But it's looking like the weather will be fairly decent if you like crisp winter
01:40sunshine for Scotland, for parts of northern England, even down to parts of the Midlands
01:45and East Anglia, largely dry and bright through Christmas Day or at least the vast majority
01:50of it. A strong wind though, particularly over the high ground of northern UK and that
01:55wind is going to make it feel really quite cold. So 4 or 5 Celsius on the thermometer
02:01feels like say 0 or 1 degree. Very different meanwhile. Later for Northern Ireland and
02:07through much of the day for Wales, parts of the Midlands and the south-west, some heavy
02:12and lively rain coming in here. In fact, for parts of south-west England and the south
02:16Wales, the rain really on and off throughout much of Christmas Day. But much milder in
02:21the south-west and this area of rain and showers moves north during Christmas Day night and
02:27that as it mixes with the cold air could lead to some lying snow over the high ground of
02:31northern UK for Boxing Day morning. Something to watch out for if you're travelling Boxing
02:36Day itself. But that's all for now. Of course, we'll keep you updated as always on social
02:42media. Bye bye.
