Transcript
00:00Hello and welcome to the latest national weather from the Met Office.
00:04Some wintry weather in places during the rest of the day.
00:07Cold and windy for all of us.
00:09There will be some sunshine, especially in the south and the east.
00:12But frequent showers are coming through on this cold north-westerly wind.
00:16Those showers falling as rain, sleet, snow and hail,
00:20even at lower levels, even in the south and the east.
00:24But most snow accumulations during daytime hours
00:27will be over the hills of Wales, Northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
00:31Some substantial snow accumulating here
00:34and even some isolated thunderstorms coming through
00:37on that brisk and unstable cold north-westerly.
00:40In fact, the wind really picking up later in the day.
00:43Gusts of 56 deep miles an hour, perhaps even a touch more
00:46for exposed coasts of Northern Ireland and Western Scotland.
00:49And of course it will feel cold in that wind wherever you are.
00:52Temperatures of 8 or 9 in the south, 4 to 6 further north.
00:57Heading through the evening then, and as temperatures fall away after dark,
01:02the showers continue and as a result,
01:05we could even see some slippery surfaces following
01:08across parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland, Northern England
01:11by the time we wake up on Friday.
01:14But the showers by this stage will be easing
01:17and with clear spells and with lighter winds by dawn,
01:20well there will be a touch of frost and yes,
01:23certainly some slippery surfaces in places.
01:25But the showers fading away through the morning and then,
01:28for many, it's a brighter, drier day with lighter winds
01:31and plenty of sunshine, especially for parts of Scotland,
01:34Northern and Eastern England.
01:36Some cloud bubbling up in the south and some thicker cloud
01:39returning by the end of the afternoon into Western Scotland,
01:42Northern Ireland with some drips and drabs of rain.
01:45It's a slightly milder day, 10 or 11 in the south,
01:488 or 9 Celsius in the north, feeling much more pleasant,
01:51however, with the sunnier skies and lighter winds.
01:54Same can't be said as we end the day for much of Scotland,
01:57we see that area of rain pushing east and hill snow
02:00associated with it as well, but mostly this is light
02:03on and off rain, it will also affect parts of Northern Ireland as well.
02:06The wind picks up here and it stays, well, lighter elsewhere
02:11and really that sets the theme for the weekend
02:14with often windy conditions towards the northwest,
02:18risk of gales for Saturday across Western Scotland,
02:21Northern Scotland, but with higher pressure closer
02:24to southeastern parts of the country, drier, lighter winds here
02:28and plenty of sunny skies.
02:30So the weather turning more settled after a day of wintry showers,
02:34we'll keep you updated on social media, bye bye.
