00:00Hello and welcome to the latest from the Met Office. It's been a wintry day for many parts
00:05of the UK, particularly northern hills, and we'll see further wintry weather to come through
00:10the evening in particular, rain and hill snow affecting Scotland, Northern Ireland, Northern
00:15England for a time. Through the night the showers become fewer and further between,
00:21but as temperatures fall and as the wind gradually drops, well there'll be some slippery surfaces
00:27first thing Friday, a few icy patches about, so watch out for those, but otherwise a slight
00:34frost for many, but beautiful blue skies with a ridge of high pressure building in. It's
00:40looking much drier and brighter for Friday itself and with lighter winds as well. The
00:45wind has been relentless in many places during recent days and weeks, so that is finally
00:50calming down for at least one day in the north. Now for much of Friday morning there'll be
00:55a few more showers trickling into north-west England, perhaps the Midlands, East Anglia
00:59for a time, but they ease away by the afternoon and then you can see plenty of sunny spells
01:04for many places during Friday afternoon, those winds the strongest of which will be moving
01:09away as well, and with light winds with sunny spells a pleasant enough afternoon. Temperatures
01:15are 10 or 11 Celsius in the south, 8 or 9 for Scotland, Northern Ireland and Northern
01:20England, but by this stage it's turning cloudier for Northern Ireland for much of Scotland
01:26and outbreaks of generally patchy light rain and drizzle into Northern Ireland and Western
01:31Scotland falling as snow over the hills as that moves into the colder air. This little
01:36feature will largely avoid much of the UK, but it is bringing a spell of cloud and increasing
01:42breeze through Friday night and some of those further outbreaks of light rain and drizzle
01:46for mainly higher parts of Scotland. With the breeze and the cloud in the north and
01:52the west, a frost-free start to Saturday here, but such a frost elsewhere with lighter winds
01:59and brighter skies to start off the weekend for much of northern and eastern England,
02:04the south as well as Wales, and it stays that way really throughout the day. It will be
02:08windy though for Northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland and increasingly the
02:12risk of gales for the Western Isles as well as for Shetland during the afternoon. The
02:16wind continuing to blow a lot of cloud into the north and again a few spots of rain and
02:20drizzle for western hills of Scotland, but otherwise for the vast majority Saturday is
02:25looking dry and fairly bright, 9 or 10 Celsius in the south and the north. This spell of
02:32rain then pushes in from the west overnight and that will bring some lively weather with
02:38it as it clears through by Sunday, but eventually Sunday also turns drier and brighter. Follow
02:44us on social media for all the very latest. Bye bye.
