25 February - National weather forecast presented by Aidan McGivern
Transcript
00:00Hello again and welcome to the latest national weather from the Met Office. Plenty of blue
00:05skies across the country during the rest of the day, a ridge of high pressure moving in
00:10finally to settle things down and what will be particularly noticeable is it will be less
00:15windy compared to recent days and weeks. That will be particularly felt for northern parts
00:20I think where it has been particularly blustery. Now for much of the country it's sunny through
00:25the rest of the day but for Scotland, for Northern Ireland an area of cloud moves in
00:29later and some outbreaks of rain for western Scotland with snow above 300-400m. Most of
00:35this is light stuff though, shouldn't cause any problems, the breeze picks up, 8-9C in
00:41the north, 10-11 with light winds and plenty of sunshine in the south, a much more pleasant
00:47day compared to recent times. Into the evening and the area of rain crosses Scotland, still
00:54some light outbreaks continuing overnight mainly over western hills as well as for parts
00:59of Northern Ireland. Also a breezy night to come for Scotland, Northern Ireland, western
01:04parts of England and Wales. So with that breeze, with the cloud covering the north and the
01:08west, temperatures are staying up above zero but a touch of frost where we've got clear
01:13skies and lighter winds in the south east, minus 1-2C possible in sheltered spots. So
01:20chilly start for parts of England and Wales, first thing Saturday but plenty of bright
01:25skies, plenty of sunshine throughout the day. We continue to see a breeze coming up
01:29from the south and that will be strong for the western isles with the risk of gales at
01:35times but for the vast majority it's a dry Saturday, just an increased cloud there for
01:41Scotland, Northern Ireland, parts of Northern England, 1-2 spots of rain mainly over hills
01:46and coasts and temperatures reaching the double figures fairly widely because of that southerly
01:50breeze. Into Saturday night and an area of rain approaches from the north west, a slow
01:56moving band of rain, some heavier bursts associated with it. Now by Sunday morning that's pushed
02:02into western Scotland and Northern Ireland, again snow over the hills there but it weakens
02:08considerably through the morning and increasingly becomes lighter and more patchy by the afternoon.
02:15Still cloudier skies for Scotland and Northern Ireland but plenty of sunshine for eastern
02:20and southern Scotland, perhaps the far north west as well and for the bulk of England and
02:25Wales, those sunny skies continuing again with a southerly breeze so temperatures of
02:298-10 Celsius. Much more as always on social media, you can stay in touch by following
02:35these channels. Bye bye.
