00:00Hi there, a drier interlude for many through the rest of Wednesday. Welcome news for the
00:06south of England where we saw some heavy rain overnight. Here's the rainfall radar from
00:111am Wednesday. You can see that heavy rain pushing into South Wales, southern England
00:15and some particularly intense downpours for the Isle of Wight where we saw some flooding
00:19in places. That rain thankfully is easing now and it will continue to do so during the
00:25rest of Wednesday but it's going to stay damp with further mostly light rain feeding
00:30into the east of Scotland and parts of north-east England through the rest of Wednesday. So
00:36a damp day to come for eastern and northern Scotland, much of the far north and north-east
00:41of England but the rainfall nowhere near as heavy as obviously we've seen recently here.
00:47Quite a breeze blowing into the east as well. Elsewhere the showery rain tends to clear
00:53away. We keep some cloud cover for the far south and south-east of England but some brighter
00:58skies there through the midlands, central southern England, Wales, Northern Ireland
01:02and for parts of western Scotland as well. Although despite the sunny spells coming through
01:07it's going to be a little cooler compared with recent weather. 12 to 14 Celsius in the
01:12south, 10 or 11 further north, not far from average for the time of year. What you'll
01:18notice towards the south-west though is an increasing cloud and some outbreaks of rain
01:23pushing in by the end of the afternoon. This is the next system pushing in from the west
01:28and south-west and it will bring outbreaks of rain to Northern Ireland, Wales, the rest
01:31of the south-west by midnight. That rain trundles north-eastwards, turning to showers generally
01:38by the end of the night. In between that rain and the rain in the north-east there'll be
01:42some fog patches and there'll also be some fog patches where we'll see clear skies towards
01:46the south-west by the end of the night. So mist and murk around first thing, some low
01:50cloud as well, quite a gloomy start, not a particularly cold start for most of us I
01:55think given the extensive cloud cover. 10, 11 in the south, 7 or 8 further north. A messy
02:03start though for Thursday with low pressure towards the west. This is the dominant low
02:08that we're going to see over the next few days, feeding in old weather fronts and frequent
02:13showers and we've also got these weather fronts pushing in and stalling once again across
02:18the north-east of the UK, bringing further rain at times during the rest of the week
02:23and into the weekend. Not as much rain as last week but any additional rainfall obviously
02:29not welcome at all. We've got high pressure sitting close to Scandinavia, that's why these
02:34fronts are coming in and moving up and stalling across north-eastern parts of the UK. So outbreaks
02:40of rain for the far north of Scotland first thing. Outbreaks of rain also pushing north-eastwards
02:44across much of the UK, turning more showery and really it's a day of showers or longer
02:49spells of rain for many. The heaviest downpours for south-western and western areas, especially
02:55near coast where there could be some hail and thunder and a gusty wind. But we'll see
03:00fewer showers towards the east and south-east where after initial rain clears through there'll
03:05be some sunny spells coming through. Western Scotland well placed for sunny spells and
03:09mostly dry weather. Eastern Scotland continuing to see a feed of light to moderate showers
03:15through the day and quite a gusty wind here as well. So all in all a day of showery rain
03:21basically and some of those outbreaks of rain will be quite lively. 15, 16 in the south,
03:2712, 13 further north. So a milder day to come compared with Wednesday, although obviously
03:33where it's raining it's not going to feel particularly pleasant. Into the evening further
03:37showery rain pushes through, again the risk of some lively downpours across west and south-western
03:42parts, perhaps even an uptick in the outbreaks of rain overnight and into the start of Friday
03:49across southern areas. So plenty of rain about over the next few days, but at least for the
03:53rest of Wednesday a drier interlude for many.
