00:00Hello, and welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office.
00:05So it's been a fairly hot week across the UK, with temperatures climbing into the 30s
00:11for now five consecutive days in a row, and today likely to see that may be made to six.
00:17And this is all due to the fact we're under a very hot air mass that's been brought up
00:20from the south. As we go into next week, you'll start to see a few more weather fronts on
00:24the charts than of late. And that's because we're starting to see cold fronts making their
00:28way southeastwards, bringing some slightly cooler air from the northwest and helping
00:33those temperatures come back down towards average. But let's go back to today and have
00:38a look at the details. So we've seen a fair bit of mist, fog, low cloud across the north
00:43and west to start today. And we've got an area of rain and drizzle affecting the far
00:47northwest of Scotland. Plenty of sunshine there as we head into this afternoon. And
00:52this is going to help an area of heavy showers and thunderstorms developing across central
00:57parts of England through today. And there is a yellow thunderstorm warning out for this.
01:02But due to the nature of thunderstorms, even if you are outside of that warning area, but
01:07close by, you could still see a thunderstorm through today. It's going to be another very
01:14warm or hot day as well, especially across the southeast, where we could see highs into
01:20the low 30s, around 33 as a max for today. So as we go through this evening, those showers
01:26will slowly fade away, continuing for a time as well across Northern Ireland and into southern
01:31Scotland, but slowly becoming drier. So still with some outbreaks of rain and drizzle across
01:37the far northwest of Scotland. As we go into the early hours of Sunday, there's an area
01:42of heavy showers and thunderstorms pushing up into the southwest. So there's a chance
01:47if you live here, you could be woken up by a thunderstorm into the early hours of Sunday.
01:51But this is all during what's going to be another warm and humid night. So another uncomfortable
01:57night for sleeping into the start of Sunday. Then we'll see those showers making their
02:03way north eastward. So into Wales, the Midlands and later on further north into northern England,
02:10Northern Ireland and southern Scotland. Now, these showers could band together and we'll
02:15see some thunderstorms and a risk of hail as well as some strong gusty winds. So do
02:21keep an eye on our website, our app and social media for the latest updates tomorrow on where
02:26the showers are, because as I said, the nature of these showers and thunderstorms does mean
02:31that they are a bit hit and miss in places. And even if you are outside of warning areas,
02:36you still are at risk of seeing a thunderstorm in these regions through tomorrow. Best of
02:40the driest and brightest weather will be for eastern and southeastern parts of England
02:46again on Sunday. This is where we'll see temperatures climbing into the 30s once more for what will
02:50probably be the final day. So making that seven consecutive days of 30 degrees Celsius
02:57recorded in the UK during September. Now, as we go into Sunday evening, those showers
03:03will continue for a while. So still further heavy showers, thunderstorms for northern
03:08England, Northern Ireland and southern Scotland. And with this band of rain and cloud across
03:14the far northwest to elsewhere with clear spells, we'll start to see some mist and fog
03:19developing, but with some low cloud pushing in for southwest England and parts of Wales
03:24too. Thank you for listening and for all your latest weather updates, do keep an eye on
03:30our social media and check out our website for all the latest warnings in force. Bye
03:35for now.
