00:00Hello, and welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office.
00:04There's plenty of rain around, particularly across England and Wales today, with showers
00:09moving in from the south-west. And these will continue to make their way northwards and
00:14eastwards through this evening, though they will become increasingly confined to the western
00:18half of the UK. This is all ahead of this band of rain making
00:23its way across Northern Ireland and later into south-western parts of Scotland and north-west
00:27England, and there could be some heavy bursts on that too.
00:32Looking further east, though, we see some clear spells start to develop into Monday,
00:36and this could just lead to some mist and fog patches forming.
00:41With this cloud and rain across much of the western half of the UK, we're going to see
00:45temperatures tonight staying around 9 to 11. Though looking further east, in those clear
00:50spells and in the shelter from those strong winds, temperatures could just drop into the
00:55mid-single figures, and we might even see a touch of grass frost for central parts of
01:00Scotland. Looking ahead to the start of the new week,
01:05and that band of rain will make its way northwards and eastwards to start Monday, and that will
01:09help to clear any mist and fog patches. This will be swiftly followed by further bands
01:15of showers or longer spells of rain, and these might just be heavy at times, throughout Monday.
01:21With all this rain around, it makes quite a gloomy start to the week, but there will
01:25be some bright spells, particularly across central and eastern England, as well as across
01:30northern and eastern Scotland. And it's here we're generally going to see
01:34the best of the temperatures through Monday, with highs of around 15 to 16 across southern
01:39parts of the UK. Now heading into Monday evening, and daytime
01:44rain will make its way to clear northern and eastern Scotland. Though we draw our attention
01:49to this band of heavy rain making its way eastwards across the country throughout Monday
01:54night. This will bring some quite heavy showers and maybe some thunderstorms too, but it's
02:00the strong winds that will be quite noticeable from this band of rain. And there will be
02:05some gales potentially for Irish sea coasts as well as south-western coasts of England,
02:10and as that band of rain moves eastwards, so will the winds, so English Channel coast
02:15could also see gales closer to Tuesday we get. Temperatures though, where that cloud
02:21and rain remains through Tuesday morning, will remain in and around the double figures.
02:26Though across northern Ireland and Scotland and maybe even northern England, Tuesday could
02:32be a little bit chilly to start with clear spells developing as that rain clears away.
02:37Now overnight rain will continue to clear away through the start of Tuesday, but further
02:42showers will move in behind. So these could be heavy at times and there is a risk of a
02:48thunderstorm with this too. There will be clear spells away from the showers though,
02:52so there will be some sunshine for some, particularly across Scotland as well as eastern parts of
02:57England. Temperatures will be a little down across the northern half of the UK on Tuesday
03:03compared to Monday, though across the southern half of the UK they'll be relatively similar
03:07with highs of 15 to 16. Now what does the rest of the week have in store? Well the changeable
03:14weather isn't going anywhere anytime soon. A mixture of sunny spells and showers will
03:19continue throughout the rest of next week, with windy weather too, especially in the
03:24west where we could see coastal gales once again into Wednesday evening. Now with southwesterly
03:29winds still remaining across the UK, it will remain quite mild too, with temperatures generally
03:35above average for the time of year. Thank you for listening and for all your latest
