00:00Hello and welcome to our latest weather update from the Met Office.
00:04So there's been plenty of heavy rain and showers and even the odd thunderstorm throughout this
00:09weekend, but let's have a look at the detail for this evening.
00:13Well, rain across Scotland and north-east England will slowly pull away into the North
00:17Sea, with some further patchy outbreaks of rain and drizzle continuing for a time.
00:23Showers will continue to feed into southern and western coasts and could bring the odd
00:26rumble of thunder through tonight, and will be fairly frequent across southern parts
00:31of Wales and south-east England.
00:34There will be some clearer skies, though, especially across central and eastern parts
00:37of England, as well as Scotland, so we could see the odd patch of mist and fog tonight,
00:42and across sheltered north-western parts of Scotland, maybe even a touch of frost to start
00:48the new week.
00:49It's like Monday brings some drier and brighter conditions for some, especially across Scotland,
00:54but showers continuing for many, especially across the south and west.
00:59Heavy for a time, especially across southern parts of Wales and southern coasts of England.
01:03A little bit more in the way of sunshine here, though, than what we've seen throughout the
01:07weekend.
01:08So temperatures faring a little bit better, with highs of 15 to 16 here, but notice those
01:14winds across Scotland are now coming from a northerly direction, so despite the sunny
01:19skies here, temperatures only just getting into the double figures.
01:23Now into the rest of Monday afternoon, and showers pushing into Northern Ireland will
01:27come a little bit more organised, so bringing some persistent and heavy rain here that could
01:33bring some localised disruption.
01:35This band of showers will slowly start to make its way into southern parts of England
01:39and Wales into the early hours of Tuesday, but generally dry, with some clear skies to
01:45the north-east of this.
01:46Again, we could see some mist and fog to start Tuesday morning.
01:50Probably a cool night, but not much of a frost around for many.
01:55Maybe just the sheltered glens of Scotland seeing some patchy frost to start Tuesday.
02:00Now for many, Tuesday's not going to be that bad of a day.
02:03We've got this band of showers making its way north-eastwards, fizzling out though as
02:06it does so.
02:07So to the north and east of this, the driest conditions, brightest weather will be across
02:13Scotland.
02:14Bit of respite as well for Northern Ireland and south-western parts of England and Wales,
02:18but that is ahead of this next system moving in as we go through the latter part of Tuesday
02:23afternoon and into Wednesday.
02:26Temperatures faring fairly well on Tuesday, though still cool in the north, with those
02:31highs only getting to around 9 or 10.
02:34Now let's just take a zoom out for now and have a look at the bigger picture.
02:37So this is the pressure pattern that we've got to start at the end of Tuesday.
02:41You'll notice low pressure's still around and the isobars are starting to tighten up.
02:46Well that is ahead of Storm Ciaran that's going to move north-eastwards across the UK
02:51throughout Wednesday evening and through the day on Thursday, bringing some disruptive
02:56wind and rain, especially to southern parts of the UK.
03:00But we will also see some strong winds and outbreaks of rain further north too.
