00:00Hello, and welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office.
00:05Now it was quite an unsettled first half of the weekend, but through Sunday it's been
00:09becoming increasingly cold and settled across the UK.
00:14But let's have a look at the detail for this evening.
00:17Now there will be some showers continuing, particularly across northern and eastern areas,
00:21and these could be wintry at times over the high ground of Scotland.
00:26We'll see plenty of clear spells developing as well through tonight, and this will allow
00:30a harsh and quite widespread frost to form across Scotland, northern England and Northern
00:35Ireland.
00:36And it's here we could see temperatures dropping as low as minus six in some rural sheltered
00:41spots.
00:42Now, further south, it'll be a bit more of a patchy frost around to start Monday, as
00:46well as some mist and fog, particularly for western Wales and southwest England.
00:52In central and southern and western parts of England and Wales, there will be a bit
00:56more in the way of cloud around through the day tomorrow, but some sunny spells, and maybe
01:00just the odd shower too.
01:02Away from this, there'll be plenty of dry, bright and fine weather across the UK, and
01:08it'll be feeling pretty pleasant within these lengthy sunny intervals.
01:12Although the temperatures tomorrow won't actually be too much higher than what we've been seeing
01:16today, though we will still be reaching the double figures across the south and west.
01:21Now, as we go into Monday evening, with all of those clear skies around, temperatures
01:26will drop quite readily, especially across northern and eastern areas, because as we
01:31look further west, we've got the next low pressure system making its way in from the
01:36Atlantic, bringing increased cloud cover and outbreaks of rain.
01:41So this will mean that temperatures across the western half of the UK will actually start
01:44to rise as we go closer to Tuesday, but we could still see a touch of frost across the
01:49north and east.
01:51Now that low pressure system will continue to make its way north-eastwards throughout
01:55the day on Tuesday, bringing cloud cover to all by late morning, and plenty of rain too.
02:01Some heavier bursts within that as well.
02:04We might also see some hill snow, particularly across the high ground of Scotland, and maybe
02:08across northern England too.
02:10The best of the dry weather will be across central, southern and eastern England, but
02:14there will still be some light rain here, especially into the afternoon.
02:19But as those winds now come from the south, temperatures will be generally higher on Tuesday
02:24than what we'll see on Monday, with highs of around 11-12.
02:29Now as we look further ahead, that low pressure system out in the Atlantic isn't going too
02:33far away, bringing continued bands of showers or rain across the UK throughout the rest
02:40of the week.
02:41Particularly as we go into Wednesday, we see another area of low pressure moving through.
02:46So this will bring widespread rain and showers across the whole of the UK.
02:50But look at those temperatures.
02:52Even by Wednesday we're getting into the low teens, and by Thursday we could start to see
02:56temperatures climbing just a little higher.
