00:00Hello, I hope everyone has had a wonderful Christmas for those celebrating.
00:04After a mostly mild day across the UK, colder weather is moving in from the north-west this evening.
00:09Looking at the bigger picture, a cold front will sweep south-eastwards this evening, marking a change in air mass,
00:15as winds come from the north-west behind the front, bringing cold air across the UK.
00:19With a temporary ridge of high pressure into Boxing Day afternoon, showers will ease for some.
00:24Back to this evening, showers will move south-eastwards and will be heavy for a time,
00:28but will ease and clear the far south-east by dawn.
00:31It will turn cold behind this, with a frost possible, especially in the north of the UK,
00:35with scattered showers too that will turn wintry over hills and to some lower levels in Scotland.
00:40Ahead of the cold front in the south-east, it will be a frost-free night,
00:44though across the north, rural lows of minus three to minus six are possible, especially over snow cover.
00:49It will be an icy morning, especially for Northern Ireland and parts of Scotland on Boxing Day,
00:54where there are yellow weather warnings in force.
00:56It will be a cloudier start in the south-east, but this will clear to leave a generally dry and bright day
01:01for central, southern and eastern England.
01:03Blustery showers will continue for the north and west, with snow accumulations over high ground
01:08for Northern Ireland, the northern Pennines and across much of Scotland,
01:11with a risk of blizzards for the Highlands.
01:13Boxing Day will be colder than Christmas Day, though,
01:16with highs of eight to ten in the south and only four to six in the north.
01:20Showers will ease for many into Boxing Day evening.
01:23There will continue and remain wintry in the far north and west ahead of a cold night,
01:28with a frost likely in places, despite a fresh breeze.
01:32The cold weather is not set to stick around, though, with temperatures rising on Tuesday
01:36and rain and strong winds affecting the whole of the UK,
01:39and this sets the theme for the rest of the week to come.
