00:00Hello. An active cold front in the north-west will weaken considerably as it pushes south.
00:06It's running into an area of high pressure across southern parts of the UK. But for a
00:11time, some heavy rain and strong winds as it crosses Scotland and Northern Ireland.
00:16Also colder air is digging in behind that front, so some snow over the hills of northern
00:21Scotland above about 100-150 metres temporarily. Then the front sinks into northern England,
00:28parts of Wales, and really weakens by this stage. It fizzles into an area of light rain
00:33and drizzle. An area of cloud, nevertheless, crossing southern parts of the UK. A touch
00:37of frost ahead of that, and a touch of frost as it clears across north Wales and northern
00:42England. But less widespread in terms of frost because of that cloud cover overnight. Now
00:48for Scotland and Northern Ireland, certainly going to be windy overnight with blustery
00:52showers moving through. And those showers will be falling as rain and hail at lower
00:55levels. Snow above 200-300 metres or so. And so some snow and icy patches to watch
01:02out for first thing across northern Scotland. There will be further showers continuing through
01:06the day, especially northern Scotland. I think fewer showers as the day progresses across
01:11central and southern Scotland and northern Ireland. A lot of cloud here and cloud spilling
01:15south as well. But the early cloud that will begin things in the south will clear away,
01:20leading to sunny skies for southern parts of the UK and highs of 10 Celsius. A pleasant
01:24afternoon here further north. Not feeling so pleasant with that blustery breeze. Now
01:29initially the breeze is going to feel cold, but we're going to have a softer breeze coming
01:33in later Thursday from the southwest. A warm front heading our way. Here it is, bringing
01:38a spell of thicker cloud and outbreaks of many light but more persistent wet weather
01:43into the north and west of Scotland. Some damp conditions for western parts of Northern
01:47Ireland by the end of the night on Thursday night. Further south, areas of high cloud
01:52but still the potential in the south for a frost in places and temperatures a few degrees
01:58below freezing in sheltered parts. A bright start though across England and Wales. There
02:03will be some lower cloud and some drizzle for northwest England, for north Wales as
02:07well. But the brightest skies will remain towards the southeast. Meanwhile, a lot of
02:13cloud in the north and with that breeze coming from the southwest, we're in what's known
02:17as a warm sector, a slice of moist and mild Atlantic air. And that Atlantic air will be
02:23dumping a lot of rainfall across the hills of western Scotland. So a damp day to come
02:28for the West Highlands. Also a lot of low cloud, but a mild day. 13 Celsius possible
02:34for Aberdeen downwind of the wet weather. And further south as well, 9 or 10 Celsius
02:41typically with lighter winds feeling more pleasant towards the south I suspect. Now
02:46into Friday night and the weekend. The weather remains fairly static. We've got that warm
02:51sector continuing through the weekend. So generally mild, generally cloudy, but most
02:57of the rain affecting the western hills of Scotland.
