00:00Hello there. Welcome to your Wednesday weather update from the Met Office. Low pressure dominating
00:06things across the UK through the next 12 hours or so. This is your weather chart. You can
00:12see two areas of low pressure and the strongest winds on the western and southern flank. These
00:17pinks represent some damaging gusts. The brighter echoes representing the highest gusts, which
00:22could reach 70, 75 miles an hour in exposure towards the southwest, as well as southwestern
00:27areas of Wales. On the Channel Coast, we're expecting up to around 60 miles an hour in
00:31terms of gusts. So gales here, severe gales here, causing high waves, problems on the
00:37roads, debris flying around, really tricky driving conditions through this afternoon,
00:42associated with any heavy rain, poor visibility as well. So let's take a look at the detail
00:48earlier on today. You can see rain across central and northern areas of Scotland. Another
00:52batch moved in across the Irish Sea towards Wales, the West Country, and another area
00:57just moving in across the north as well as the west of Northern Ireland. So some heavy
01:01weather to come this afternoon across Northern Ireland. Western Scotland, a driving northerly
01:06wind and these gales, severe gales towards the south as well as the southwest. Showery
01:10rain then extends across England and Wales. Brighter skies, central and eastern areas
01:15of Scotland, the eastern strip of England. But even here, you will see some showers with
01:20an outside chance of thunder as well as hail. In between, a little sunshine, perhaps a better
01:25end to the day across northern parts of Wales. Central parts of Scotland not doing too badly
01:29at all, but a driving wind pushing up towards Orkney as well as Shetland. Temperatures will
01:34be on the low side, feeling cold under that rain. Now through Wednesday evening and overnight,
01:39we continue to see this rain just circulating around this broad area of low pressure. The
01:44winds tend to lose their sting a little bit, and you can see the rain becomes more confined
01:49to northern parts of the country. So a sliver of clearer air coming in across Wales, the
01:54Midlands, the southeast. Whereas to end the night, we'll see showery rain across northern
01:58England, eventually northern Ireland yet again, as well as some showers for Scotland. A few
02:03showers just pushing in across the West Country here, and still quite a keen breeze as we
02:07head into Thursday. Through Thursday, a bright start to the day across central southern England.
02:12We'll see some sunshine coming through elsewhere, but showers never too far away, and they are
02:16likely to be fairly heavy, particularly across the central swathe of the country. Whereas
02:20down towards the southwest, you'll see a respite in that weather. We'll see some brighter
02:25skies here. Temperatures a notch up on today, 10 to 13 degrees Celsius. However, let's fast
02:31forward to Friday morning. This area of rain will move in again across Wales, the West
02:37Country, central southern England, moving from the west towards the east. Some brighter
02:40skies to start the day. A cold start across central and northern areas of the country.
02:44You can see these blues just swirling round. Oranges towards the far south as this low
02:49pressure just clears towards the low countries. And then again, yet again, another area of
02:55cloud and rain moves in. But this one's different. It's going to bring more milder air. Temperatures
02:59will rise through the weekend, and the rain will skirt the north as well as the west.
03:03See you later.
