00:00Hello, and welcome to the summer solstice. Not that it will feel very summer-like in
00:05the south where it will stay wet through the rest of Monday and cool, just 12 to 14 Celsius
00:11in places. Brighter skies elsewhere. In fact, the brightest skies, the best of the sunshine
00:17will be towards the north-west of the UK where this ridge of high pressure is moving in.
00:21That's pushing a weather front south across northern England, north Wales into the north
00:26Midlands, a weakening front, but this more active front is moving up from France and
00:31that's bringing the current wet weather to much of southern England and perhaps fringing
00:36south Wales for a time, but mostly it's these southern counties of England that will stay
00:40damp through the rest of the day. The heavier bursts of rain largely around the English
00:43Channel coast into parts of Kent and Sussex, but further north, a lot of cloud cover, yes,
00:49a few showers for parts of Wales into the north Midlands, for example, and a few showers
00:54for northern Scotland, but towards western Scotland, northern Ireland, that's where the
00:59brightest skies will be. That's where the best of the sunshine will be. I think for
01:03somewhere in northern Ireland, Glasgow, somewhere in this slice as well, from Swansea through
01:09to Birmingham, we'll see 19 or 20 Celsius. Otherwise, mid to high teens and decidedly
01:15cool there where we've got the persistent rain, 12 to 14 Celsius at best in places along
01:21the south. The rain continues into the evening. It only slowly eases and becomes increasingly
01:28later on concentrated towards East Anglia and the southeast. Further north and west,
01:33clearing skies and lowering temperatures, those temperatures dipping into the middle,
01:38even low single figures in places. So an unusually cool night, I think, for the time of year,
01:44despite the night being one of the shortest of the year, if not the shortest, and a sunny
01:50start for Scotland, northern Ireland, northern and western England, as well as Wales. Quite
01:55quickly the cloud builds and it will tend to fill in through the day, so a largely cloudy
01:59day and we keep the cloud towards East Anglia and the southeast, along with a few spots
02:04of rain, but most of the rain easing by the afternoon. Much warmer, though, along the
02:09south where we see those suppressed temperatures on Monday, 19 or 20 Celsius and also 20, 21
02:15Celsius elsewhere, but towards the northwest, an area of cloud and rain arrives late afternoon
02:21into western Scotland and northern Ireland. And it's the weather from the northwest that
02:26will dominate the proceedings through the rest of the week, really. The continental
02:31stuff moving away and then it's Atlantic stuff that moves in. So through Wednesday into Thursday,
02:38increasingly it's cloud and outbreaks of rain arriving from the northwest. The driest and
02:42brightest weather will be found towards the south and southeast. Follow us on social
