00:00Hello again. Well, high pressure is going to do its best to be our friend over the next
00:05few days, which means that a lot of dry weather is on the cards for the UK, both for the rest
00:09of this week, the weekend, and indeed into next week as well. Quite a bit of sunshine
00:13around as well, but equally there will be some areas of cloud just sporing that sunshine
00:16from time to time, and a rather nagging north to northeast breeze will just make it feel
00:21a bit cooler around some southern and eastern coasts.
00:25But for the rest of Thursday evening, the best of the sunshine is out towards the west.
00:29As we move on through the night, some fog patches redeveloping once again, particularly
00:33for Northern Ireland, but one or two fog patches elsewhere. More cloud though further towards
00:36the east, still feeding in one or two showers on what will be quite a brisk breeze down
00:40that North Sea coast. Best of the clear weather further to the west, and where we've got the
00:44clear skies and with lighter winds out towards the west, well those temperatures will be
00:48falling away quite smartly for the time of year. So towns and cities, somewhere between
00:51about 9 and 12 degrees typically, but rural areas of south-west England, mid-Wales running
00:56up through southern and eastern Scotland, or in places where it could be as low as 3
01:00or 4 degrees. That's cold enough just about for a touch of grass frost first thing on
01:04Friday morning.
01:06So quiet weather because we've got high pressure in charge, and that's not really going too
01:09far too quickly over the next few days. Always centred to the north of the UK, which means
01:13we're going to see this brisk north-northeast wind flowing around the southern and eastern
01:18flank of that high pressure. So keeping things a bit cooler towards some southern and east
01:22facing coasts. Further towards the north-west, closer to the centre of the high, less ice
01:26bars, the winds are lighter, and here I think we'll see the warmest weather as we move on
01:30through the upcoming weekend.
01:33Now the detail then for Friday. So a chilly start first thing, particularly out west,
01:36but those temperatures should come up quite smartly underneath what is still strong August
01:40sunshine. Further to the east again, more clouds to start off the day, and this cloud
01:43will tend to expand as it pushes its way westwards through the day. So a good part of England
01:47and Wales we'll see some fairly lengthy cloudy periods from time to time blotting out the
01:51sunshine. Still the odd shower I think coming out of that cloud, particularly in eastern
01:55counties of England. Once again, as in recent days, once all the fog has gone from Northern
01:59Ireland, I think the best is the sunshine across parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland.
02:03And here, where we've got the lightest winds as well, is where we'll see the highest temperatures.
02:07So 21, 22 degrees, maybe a shade warmer in one or two spots here. A little bit cooler
02:11where we keep the cloud and indeed the breeze of course, across eastern England.
02:16Now through Friday evening I think a lot of this cloud will tend to melt away once again.
02:19So for a while, for a while on Friday evening and Saturday morning, I think quite a lot
02:23of clear weather across the UK. Some mist and drizzle perhaps coming into parts of north-west
02:28Scotland, perhaps the north coast of Northern Ireland, but for a lot of us it will be dry
02:31and clear. The exceptions to this will be the far east of eastern England, south-east
02:35England as well, where a brisk breeze will reintroduce cloud later in the night, one
02:39or two showers too. Unlike with recent nights, where we've got the cloud and the breeze,
02:43temperatures not falling too far, but where we've got lengthy clear spells out west where
02:47it will be a chilly start to the weekend.
02:50So for Saturday in itself, bit of an east-west split first thing. We'll see quite a bit of
02:54cloud around first thing across the east. This will tend to expand again a bit further
02:58across parts of central southern England into the Midlands. And I think a few more showers
03:01on Saturday afternoon compared to what we've seen so far this week. Perhaps the slightly
03:04heavier one, but equally not everywhere seeing a shower. Again, the best of the sunshine
03:09will be further north and west once early morning fog clears. And the far north-west
03:12of Scotland still potentially plagued by some low cloud and mistiness. But inland, low 20s
03:17isn't the best of the sunshine. So in summary, the sunshine really is going to make all the
03:20difference over the next few days.
03:22So mixed fortunes sunshine-wise, but the overarching theme is that it's going to be settled, mostly
03:27dry. And of course, we'll keep you up to date with all the weather for the weekend ahead
03:31across our social media channels. Take care.
