28 August - National weather forecast presented by Craig Snell.
Transcript
00:00Hello, there. Welcome to your latest weather forecast on the Met Office. As we go through
00:04the last few days of August, the weather is certainly set to remain fairly changeable
00:08across the UK. We have this area low pressure dominating proceedings initially. That gets
00:14quickly replaced by another area low pressure as we head towards the end of the week, with
00:17the rain towards the end of the week mainly focused across the southern half of the UK.
00:22Back to this evening, and for a lot of England and Wales, we end Monday off on a fairly dry
00:28note. A few showers around, but quite a lot of cloud too. For Scotland and Northern Ireland
00:32though, we see this band of showery rain spread its way south-eastwards during the course
00:36of the night. Some heavy bursts on it, especially across the Northern Isles, maybe also across
00:40the Highlands too. And for many of us, temperatures generally remain in double figures.
00:46So we start Tuesday tracking this band of showery rain across southern Scotland, moves
00:50into Northern England, Wales quite quickly, and then spreads its way south-eastwards through
00:54the course of the day. Behind it for Northern Ireland and Scotland, a rash of showers, especially
00:59for parts of Scotland. Some of these showers here could potentially turn quite heavy, maybe
01:02even the odd rumble of thunder, and brought in on a fairly blustery wind, making it feel
01:07a little bit cooler here than of late. Elsewhere, not too bad in any sunshine, could see highs
01:12reaching 21 or 22 degrees in the south.
01:16Into the evening, this band of showery rain will continue to clear towards the south-east,
01:20leaving many southern parts of the country dry with some clear skies. But further north,
01:25continuation of a mixture of clear spells and scattered showers. And again, some of
01:30these showers could be potentially heavy up across the north.
01:33Overall, a cooler night than of late, especially in the countryside, could see lows falling
01:37down to about 5 to 6 degrees in a few spots.
01:41But that will set us up for a much brighter start on Wednesday, and I'm hopeful a lot
01:45more sunshine around compared to recent days. Still the risk of a few showers, some of these
01:49showers could be potentially quite heavy initially across northern England, but they
01:53will sink their way into parts of Yorkshire, the Midlands and East Anglia as the day goes
01:57on. Also, the risk of some further showers for northern Scotland. But elsewhere, hopefully
02:01more in the way of dry weather, especially down towards the south-western corner here,
02:05we could actually see some good amounts of sunshine as the day goes on.
02:09And in the sunshine, feeling once again not too bad, highs reaching the low 20s, but temperatures
02:14tempered somewhat in the north by this breeze.
