00:00Hello there. Now through Wednesday evening and overnight into the early hours of Thursday morning
00:04there's a thunderstorm warning in force across the southeastern quadrant of the country.
00:08First of all, let me take you through a snapshot of mid-evening through Wednesday.
00:12This band of squally rain is pushing ever eastwards, so some heavy rain to come
00:17just for a time for Northern Ireland, the western fringes of Scotland, before it moves ever eastwards.
00:22Showery rain has been migrating from the south through the latter part of the afternoon on Wednesday.
00:26You can see some brighter echoes here and that's where the warning zone is in force,
00:30anywhere from Dorset, the East Midlands, the Wash and further south and east.
00:35So through the evening watch out for thunder, lightning and hail associated with this plume
00:41as it gradually moves towards more eastern counties. This band of rain, squally rain,
00:46across Northern Ireland producing some heavy bursts through rush hour will slowly move in
00:51across mainland Scotland through the latter part of the evening and overnight,
00:56extending down towards the far south of Scotland for a time, but we won't see as many
01:01heavy bursts here as the thundery outbreaks just gradually clear from the shores of East Anglia,
01:07Kent and Lincolnshire through the latter part of the night as well.
01:10So a quieter end to the night, a cooler one particularly for Northern Ireland
01:14as well as the West Country. Temperatures here around seven degrees Celsius
01:18and still a strong wind towards the north and the west of Scotland where
01:21we continue to see a feed of clouds and showers through the first part of Thursday morning.
01:27Perhaps one or two showers just lingering on across Kent first thing, but then
01:31it's a fine day. It's a bright one with some sunshine and feeling warm in that sun as the
01:36winds will be fairly gentle across eastern and southern Scotland, much of England and Wales.
01:40Still quite a breeze across Northern Ireland and western Scotland. You can see
01:43those showers pretty much dying out apart from the outer Hebrides where you'll see some frequent
01:49and for Shetland, you'll have a much better afternoon after a wet morning here.
01:53Temperatures then typically coming in around 20 in the north, 23 in the southeast.
01:58So all in all, a pleasant day if you can escape the winds from the west
02:03and certainly those showers, but further east, it's going to feel very warm.
02:06So through Thursday evening and overnight, another band of showery rain
02:10gradually makes inroads eastwards towards the south. You'll see the cloud thicken all the
02:15while and again, some showery bursts of rain just nudging in across west country
02:19as well as southern parts of Wales through the early hours of the morning, eventually
02:22reaching the Midlands. So this will again bring with it clouds and a little rain as we head
02:26through the first part of Friday. Through Friday morning then, this rain waiting in the wings,
02:31yet another wet spell for Northern Ireland and western Scotland, but this will move its way
02:35eastwards through the day as the cloud continues to thicken across England and Wales with a thunder
02:41towards the southeast. You can see those thunderstorms just brewing there across the
02:46channel towards France. So through Friday, things turn a little bit wetter for many areas as that
02:53rain moves in from the west across much of Scotland and northern England, clipping the far north
02:57of Wales. And those showers again track their way eastwards and northeastwards and we could
03:03see one or two thundery plumes just come in from the near continent. Winds will be stronger,
03:07particularly associated with this occlusion, but some brighter skies later on in the day towards
03:12the south as well as the east, as well as brightening up across more western areas later
03:16on as well. So here are your temperatures through Friday, not as high as the last few days. Highest
03:22temperatures in the southeast, typically around the mid-teens and the weekend pretty much looks
03:27like this, a bit more unsettled towards the north and the west, fine and mostly dry towards the
03:32south and the east. Stay tuned to the forecast and obviously we'll keep you posted here at the Met
03:36office.
