00:00Hello again. For some, but not for all, it's a wet start to August following a notably
00:05dry July and that rain at its heaviest overnight across northern and north-western parts of
00:12the UK. Carried in on a stiff south-westerly breeze, the rain will be heaviest and most
00:17persistent over western hills. It will be on and off towards the north-east and certainly
00:22for southern areas mostly dry, although a few spots of drizzle for the south-west as
00:27well as for south Wales. With a lot of cloud coming in as well and this humid air flow
00:32from the south-west, it's a mild and in places uncomfortable night for sleeping, 15-18 Celsius
00:39generally first thing. A marked contrast for Scotland where it was so cool the previous
00:44night. Humid air coming in around an area of low pressure, a couple of weather fronts
00:49crossing mainly northern and central parts of the country as we start off Tuesday. That
00:53rain will be heavy for southern Scotland, northern England, into the north midlands,
00:58parts of north-west Wales, perhaps the odd rumble of thunder as well. Now the heaviest
01:02of the rain pushes away by lunchtime. Skies brighten for Scotland and northern Ireland,
01:07a few sunny spells coming through here, a few showers as well in the north-west where
01:11it will be breezy. But for Wales and the south-west, I think it will stay damp and gloomy through
01:16much of the day, but 23-24 Celsius nevertheless and hot and humid towards the south-east where
01:23it stays dry with sunny spells. And 25 also notable for eastern Scotland given a bit of
01:31a fern effect with the wind coming in from the south-west and drying up over the higher
01:34ground to the east. Further showers for Scotland and northern Ireland overnight, some more
01:38persistent rain into the outer Hebrides. And it stays generally damp for parts of south
01:43Wales and the south-west, nothing substantial with the rainfall overnight, just outbreaks
01:48of light rain and drizzle. But it's a remarkably warm night once again, 18-19 Celsius, minimum
01:56temperatures for parts of England and east Wales, 15-16 for Scotland and northern Ireland.
02:03Then as we begin Wednesday, some perhaps more moderate rain affects parts of south-west
02:08England and south Wales for a time around Bristol Channel coast. You can see 10-15 millimetres
02:14out of this, but it weakens as it pushes east. Areas of cloud surrounding that, but
02:20brighter skies to the north and a cooler feel I think on Wednesday in the north, high teens,
02:27low twenties, whilst it stays fairly humid towards the south-east, 28 Celsius once again
02:32for say London into Essex, Suffolk and so on. Then this area of cloud and dribs and
02:39drabs of rain clear away and it's a brighter end to the week for many. Scattered showers
02:43in the north, dry in the south, feeling cooler.
