00:00Hi there, we are still seeing residual impacts from Storm Ciarán, especially so with its
00:05rainfall, but hopefully the worst of it is now easing as it moves away, but here it is
00:11after midnight on Wednesday night as it brought extreme weather to North France, to the Channel
00:16Islands in particular, gusts in these areas of 100 miles an hour or so, and it brought
00:23some supercell thunderstorms to the Channel Islands, frequent lightning, large hail and
00:29the possible sighting of a tornado. We also saw those thunderstorms affecting southern
00:32parts of England and the wind gusts across some southern counties of England as Ciarán
00:37moved through during the morning, 77 for the Isles of Scilly, 78 for the Kent coast. Those
00:43winds now have eased, Ciarán is moving into the North Sea, it's weakening, it is filling,
00:48but it's still bringing quite a blustery wind to many places. We've got these spiralling
00:51bands of rain continuing to affect especially eastern parts of the UK, more scattered showers
00:55towards the west as we go through the night, Wales, southwest England seeing frequent downpours
01:01and then Northern Ireland sees a feed of showers by the end of the night as well. But the more
01:04persistent rain will affect eastern Scotland and parts of the far north-east of England
01:09along with a strong breeze. Now of course with the wind, with the showery rain continuing
01:13overnight many places will be relatively mild, 8, 9, 10 Celsius or so, but we will see some
01:18breaks in the cloud, we'll see some drier interludes through the Midlands, East Anglia,
01:22south-east England and in some sheltered spots, 5, 6, 7 Celsius is possible. Where
01:27we do get those lower temperatures, that's where we'll get the best of the brightness
01:30first thing Friday, some decent sunny spells through parts of Wales into the Midlands,
01:34East Anglia, south-east England. Elsewhere quite a number of showers feeding in, quite
01:38a lot of cloud as well in the north and those longer spells of rain continuing across the
01:42north-east of Scotland and at times parts of the Pennines, the southern uplands for
01:46example. A strong breeze as well and those outbreaks of rain of course falling onto saturated
01:51ground could cause some further issues with localised flooding. So yellow warning in
01:56force for eastern Scotland until the end of the day on Friday. Further south it is a quieter
02:01picture compared with Thursday, sunny spells, a bit of a breeze and temperatures reaching
02:0512 to 13 Celsius. Then into Friday night, the showers increasingly will be focused towards
02:11the north-west, that's where the winds will be coming from, but also the north-east of
02:15Scotland continuing to see a feed of rain or showers at times. Then there will be a
02:20drier interlude with some clear spells only ahead of the next system that's coming in
02:24from the south-west to bring more persistent and heavier rain by the end of the night across
02:29south-west England and south Wales. The winds picking up strength here as well so that will
02:33limit temperatures from falling too far. Although where we've got that clearer slot, western
02:38Scotland, parts of Northern Ireland, the Midlands, East Anglia, we'll see mid or even low single
02:42figures by dawn on Saturday. That's where the best of the sunshine will be on Saturday.
02:46It's not going to last through central and eastern England, quite quickly it will cloud
02:49over and the rain marches northwards into Wales, the Midlands, parts of eastern and
02:54eventually northern England, a damp afternoon to come in these areas. Further south, once
02:59the rain clears, we've got frequent and heavy showers following along with a gusty wind
03:04but nothing like the strength of the wind we saw through the English Channel on Wednesday
03:07night. Further north, a quieter day eventually for Scotland and Northern Ireland, still a
03:12lot of cloud around, but the rain in the north of Scotland eventually eases and turns
03:17to showers. 9 or 10 Celsius in the north, 12, 13 further south, not far from the seasonal
03:23average. Then it's a Sunday, it's a day of sunny spells and showers for many but still
03:28a bit of a breeze but certainly more potential for brighter weather for a time, likewise
03:33on Monday.
