00:00Hi there, we're going to see something overnight that we've not seen for some time, a widespread
00:06frost across the UK. As cold air sweeps in from the north, that cold air has now moved
00:13in widely, courtesy of this northerly wind which will continue to bring some showers
00:17to the north-east of Scotland, eastern England overnight. Mostly these will be rain and hail
00:21at lower levels, some seasons over the hills of Scotland, but actually those showers will
00:26be easing through the nights, mostly confined to the far coastal part of the UK, and for
00:31the vast majority it's clearing skies, lighter winds, all the ingredients for a widespread
00:37frost. Towns and cities I think, somewhere between minus one and two Celsius by dawn
00:42on Saturday. In rural parts, for example south-west England, down to minus five Celsius. North-west
00:49England, minus eight Celsius possible, likewise for western Scotland. These are where the
00:54lightest winds will be, that's why we'll see the lowest temperatures in the west.
00:58Not quite so low in the east, but still feeling cold with that northerly wind still in place
01:03as we start the weekend. But despite the chill, actually plenty of beautiful blue skies, it's
01:08a crisp autumn day for the vast majority, and even in the east the showers will tend
01:13to fade away, just one or two by the afternoon. Sunny spells breaking out widely, and the
01:18wind easing as well, that has been particularly strong during Friday. With the sunshine and
01:23the light winds it will feel pleasant, it might not feel as cold as it might if the
01:28winds were stronger. Temperatures below average widely, five, six, seven or even eight Celsius
01:34in the south, three or four further north, perhaps lower than that over higher parts
01:39of northern England and Scotland. Then it's a Saturday evening, we keep the clear skies
01:44at first, and once the sun sets, of course it's setting very early at this time of year,
01:49temperatures will drop away quickly. So widespread frost forming during Saturday evening, and
01:55it will be a frosty night, certainly for the east of the UK and the north. But actually
02:00further west temperatures will begin to rise through the night as thicker cloud begins
02:04to arrive, and some outbreaks of rain from the Atlantic. So these are the kinds of temperatures
02:10we'll be seeing by dawn on Sunday, eight, nine Celsius, parts of Pembrokeshire, southwest
02:15England, but below freezing once again in the north and the east of the UK. That's where
02:20the brightest skies will be first thing this weekend as the ridge of high pressure holds
02:24on. But we've got this low sneaking in from the west, it's bringing an occluding weather
02:29front with it, it's bringing cloud and outbreaks of rain. It's slow moving as it pushes against
02:35that cold air and the ridge of high pressure that will be sitting in the east. So it's
02:39a dry and bright start for central and northern Scotland, eastern England seeing plenty of
02:43bright weather first thing. Some areas of medium and high level cloud moving in during
02:48the morning and into the afternoon, so not staying completely sunny, although central
02:52parts of Scotland will keep the best of the blue skies. Elsewhere, thickening cloud, outbreaks
02:57of rain moving through Northern Ireland, pushing into southwest Scotland, western England and
03:01Wales, some heavy bursts, especially over parts of Wales and the southwest, a freshening
03:06breeze as well. So a real contrast compared with how it will feel on Saturday I suspect
03:10across these western parts of the UK. But temperatures will be rising as that milder
03:15air and wetter air moves in, 11 Celsius towards the southwest. Not feeling so pleasant where
03:20we've got the edge of the rainfall moving into cold air across central areas, so somewhere
03:26like Birmingham, 5, 6, 7 Celsius and some patchy rain moving in by the end of the afternoon,
03:31staying bright in the far north and the east until dark. Then into next week, it's mild
03:38and wet for a time before the potential for some colder and in places some wintry weather.
03:46But there'll be more on that in an update on our YouTube channel later on.
