00:00His trainer Richard Hannan called him a speed car.
00:08Lucel is the first son of Mémas to stand in France.
00:12We stopped at Arras-du-Boucteau to catch up with him and to have a chat with stud manager
00:16Benoit Geoffroy.
00:18We are very happy we are able to stand Lucel in 2024 in Boucteau.
00:25It's a great opportunity for Bridges because he's the first son of Mémas to stand in France
00:30Mémas that we co-owned with Talio and who has been so successful having now four Group
00:36One winners and he has the record of two winners in Europe.
00:40Lucel was kind of a no-brainer because you know he ticked all the boxes physically, the
00:46pedigree.
00:47It's still a style line that we don't have that much in France and I think it's great
00:52that we give the opportunity to use that blood.
00:56As a two-year-old he started in May and won.
01:00That showed how early he was and how good he was early on.
01:04Then he won the July Stakes in Newmarket over six pelons and went on to win the Gymkrak
01:10as a two-year-old.
01:12So he showed ability to be early, to show speed and then he was good enough as a three-year-old
01:19to then start in Newbury where he was second to Perfect Power who became the best sprinting
01:26two-year-old of his generation.
01:29He beat Angel Bleu in that race that was probably the best French form horse winning two Group
01:36Ones.
01:37He was second to St James Palace Stakes where he showed a very good turn of foot and he
01:41was really close second to Coribus who was a very good miler.
01:47We've been very lucky actually you know it's just worked really well and he became a good
01:51horse and yeah it's good and hopefully now he's also become a good style for us.
01:56Physically he's a medium-sized horse but he's very well put together.
02:01He's very strong bodied like kind of a sprinting type physical and he moves really well.
02:09He's like a cat and as Richard Haddon said he's got a great mental.
02:15That horse, nothing bothered him.
02:17Always happy, easy to train, no issue, sound and always giving the best.
02:24His mother was a good racing filly.
02:26She's a sister to a very good tough sprinter, Fair Jag who won 11 times, won the Golden
02:33Jubilee in Ascot.
02:34It's a tough horse and yeah the mother is the granddaughter of Green Desert who was
02:40a very speedy horse himself.
02:42It's very important for the French breeders I think to be able to have that speed factor
02:47again and he worked in the past and when you see Wooten Basset and Cioni were early two
02:53years old and even before like Annabelle was a sprinter, it's always important at some
02:58point to bring back some speed.
03:00So Lucer will stand for 6,000 euros life full.
03:06We thought it's a fair price where the breeders would use him and hopefully be happy with
03:11the progeny to race and also be able to make a bit of money if they sell.
03:14It's always good in both ways and let's hope the French breeders like him, use him
03:21and hopefully be as successful for the French breeding industry.
