00:00After spending one year in Japan in 2013, Street Sense has been a fixture at the top
00:10of the Kentucky Stallion ranks since his return.
00:13Darren Fox tells us why 2023 might just be his best year yet.
00:18We believe Street Sense's best years lie just ahead of him.
00:22So in 2017, Street Sense did not have any three-year-olds in North America, as he had
00:29spent one breeding season in Japan, but it was such a unique thing to take a stallion
00:35out of the market, have no three-year-olds.
00:38And that fall, we really wanted to get his stud fee right.
00:43And so we ultimately set his stud fee at $35,000 for the 2018 breeding season.
00:50Two weeks later, McKinsey won the first of what would be his four grade ones and created
00:57a dynamic and a level of demand for Street Sense that was incredible.
01:03And he has just taken off and has been a stallion whose book has been difficult to manage through
01:09the sheer demand year on year.
01:12But from 2017 to 2020, his stud fee ultimately rose from $35,000 all the way up to $75,000
01:21back to his initial stud fee.
01:24And so the first of those $75,000 crops are actually two-year-olds of 2023.
01:32So he's a stallion who has been on an upward trajectory in recent times, but the fruits
01:39of that upward trajectory are about to start rolling out in 2023.
01:45Street Sense is a stalwart of the industry.
01:49He is a proven, reliable stallion who gets top-class horses.
01:54He has very strong sales performances.
01:59His eight Northern Hemisphere grade one winners have all been on the main track, but they've
02:05been very versatile in terms of distance.
02:07If you look at Street Sense's graded stakes winners, he has had graded stakes winners
02:11from six to 10 furlongs.
02:13Street Sense has sired four grade one winning two-year-olds and is certainly able to add
02:19an amount of precocity to his progeny.
02:22You look at Street Sense, he is a big, imposing 16.3 horse.
02:28He's a physical specimen, but he certainly is a lot of horse.
02:32And you forget that he won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile by 10 lengths.
02:36It is certainly an exciting time for the Street Sense sire line.
02:40So it's funny that Street Sense's first five grade one winners in North America were all
02:47fillies, and then McKinsey started the run of the Colts.
02:53But to have horses of the caliber of McKinsey, of Maxfield, of Speaker's Corner, there are
02:58three high-caliber stallions, which looks set to ensure that the Street Sense sire line
03:04will be around for generations to come.
03:06We firmly believe that now is one of the best times, if not the best time, to breed to Street Sense.
03:15He's a horse who stood fee every year, you know, went up, went up, went up, and still
03:19did not slow the demand and the response from the market.
03:22So he's just got some great stuff coming through.
03:25And you know, he's a horse, even though at 19 years of age, he's just about to ride the
03:31crest of a wave.
03:33And he's got some really strong crops about to play out over the next couple of years.
