00:00Good afternoon. Welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office. So, higher pressure
00:05towards the south of the UK has brought us a settled couple of days. But this area of
00:09low pressure out towards the north slowly sinks its way southwards across the UK through
00:14the rest of the weekend and into the start of next week. And it brings with it some very
00:17chilly air, so temperatures dropping just below average for the time of year. High pressure
00:22does remain close by out towards the west, and there are some hints that that will return
00:26closer towards the UK through the second half of the week and in towards next weekend.
00:31Back to this afternoon's weather though, and the higher pressure down towards the south
00:34will bring some hazy sunshine but some drier conditions for the southern half of the UK
00:38through this afternoon. Maybe the odd one or two showers bubbling up across parts of
00:41Wales and northern England, but it's western Scotland and Northern Ireland that will see
00:45those heavier showers this afternoon. We could see some hail and thunder mixed in there,
00:50and even some snow across the high ground of Scotland. There'll be some brisk westerly
00:54breeze as well, and that'll allow temperatures to be a little lower than we saw on Saturday.
00:58Highs in the south reaching around 14 or 15, maybe the odd isolated 16 degrees, and further
01:03north around 9 to 11 degrees. Through Sunday evening, those heavier showers continue across
01:09western parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland, and they slowly sink their way south and eastwards
01:14into the early hours of Monday morning. Southern parts of England do hold on to that dry weather
01:19for a time, so there will be some clear skies here, but by the time we reach Monday morning,
01:23those showers are becoming widespread across the whole of the UK. Again, we could see some
01:27snow across the high ground of northern England and parts of Scotland, and the wind's starting
01:31to pick up with that brisk north-westerly breeze through the early hours of Monday morning.
01:36It'll be another chilly night to come, particularly in the north of the UK, we could see those
01:39temperatures dropping down into the low single figures, perhaps as low as maybe 1 or 2 degrees,
01:45but further south, temperatures around 7 or 8 degrees.
01:49So a bit of a chilly but blustery start to the day on Monday. Those heaviest bands of
01:54showers eventually clear their way south and eastwards through Monday morning, and we will
01:58start to see some sunshine developing behind, albeit there will still be plenty of showers
02:02around. The heaviest showers always across western parts of Scotland and northern parts
02:06of England, and we could even see some snow across the Pennines, the Lake District and
02:10the high ground of Scotland as well. With that brisk north-westerly breeze, it'll be
02:14feeling quite chilly, particularly compared to the past couple of days, with highs in
02:18the south not reaching much above 12 or 13 degrees, and even in the north struggling
02:23to reach into the double figures.
02:26Through Monday evening, the heaviest showers do continue across parts of Scotland, and
02:29again we could see some snow over the hills, with some hail and thunder mixed in too, but
02:34further south, the showers gradually starting to ease through Monday night and into the
02:37start of Tuesday. The winds also dropping out as well, so turning a little lighter to
02:42start Tuesday, but it will still be another chilly night under those clear skies.
02:46A few showers still around on Tuesday and Wednesday, but as I mentioned, there are those
02:50hints that we might see higher pressure returning later in the week and towards next weekend,
02:54but make sure you subscribe to our YouTube channel to find out the details of that closer
02:58to the time. Bye bye.
