00:00Hello there, welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office. Last night, many
00:04of us had the opportunity to see the northern lights, all thanks to a geomagnetic storm.
00:10As we go through tonight, there's another good opportunity, especially across more northern
00:14parts of the UK. Solar activity will be a little bit weaker than it was last night,
00:18so for everyone in the south, it may well be that you need a decent camera to spot the
00:23lights, but still a good opportunity to get out and look at the sky.
00:28Back to the here and now, for most of us, it's going to be a pleasant afternoon. A few
00:32showers will develop across parts of Scotland and northern England, could even hear the
00:36odd rumble of thunder. Just watching out for a little bit of low cloud, mist and sea fog
00:42affecting some eastern coastlines. But for many of us, dry and in the sunshine, highs
00:47reaching easily into the low 20s, potentially up to around 24 or 25 degrees down towards
00:53the south east.
00:55Into this evening, any showers across Scotland generally fading away. Clear skies for most,
01:01so again, an excellent opportunity to get outside to potentially spot the northern lights.
01:06Some eastern coasts, however, will see that low cloud move back in, so may well be a little
01:11bit more limited here. But for all of us, it's going to be a mild night, most towns
01:15and cities staying firmly in double figures.
01:19So Sunday morning, starts off quite murky across some eastern areas, but that will burn
01:23its way back towards the North Sea as we go through the course of the morning. Elsewhere,
01:27largely dry and sunny, but showers already breaking out across Northern Ireland and as
01:32we go through the course of the afternoon, these develop more widely across more western
01:36and northern parts of the country. Some torrential downpours in places, there are warnings in
01:41force from the Met. Obviously, do stay up to date on our website for the latest information
01:46on the warnings. But if you do have any travel plans tomorrow, do take note because there
01:50could be some difficult driving conditions in places. But where we do see the sunshine
01:55linger, especially across the South East, we could see highs reaching 26 or 27 degrees.
02:02And then really a change is in store as we go into next week. We say goodbye to the area
02:07of high pressure. Low pressure really takes charge across the UK, bringing in some further
02:11wet weather at times. Temperatures trending back down to where they should be for the
02:16time of year. But in any sunshine between showers, it shouldn't feel too bad out there.
02:21But you can find out more about the weather where you are over the next five days on our
02:26website or our app. And don't forget to follow us on our social media channels. But for me
02:31for now, take care and I'll see you again soon.
