00:00Hello there, welcome to your weather update from the Met Office. It's Wednesday morning and it's cold outside for most.
00:05We're seeing some Arctic air spread across the country.
00:08There's a snow and ice warning until lunchtime across northern and western parts of Scotland associated with wintry showers.
00:13Now towards the far south, notice the air is milder,
00:17but these weather fronts are never too far away, bringing with it some cloud and even some patchy rain from time to time before
00:21more persistent rain arrives later on on Wednesday and
00:25into Thursday morning. More about that in a moment. For the time being,
00:28watch out for slippery surfaces across Scotland. This feature here has brought a scattering of snow showers,
00:34so you could see a covering across the central belt down towards the southern parts of Scotland through the first part of the day.
00:39One or two wintry showers can't be ruled out across Northern Ireland,
00:42but some bright skies, some sunshine as the sun rises across northern counties of England,
00:46hazy sunshine further south across the Midlands, Wales, East Anglia, eastern counties and some patchy frost.
00:53But to the south of that, that's where we're seeing more cloud, higher temperatures
00:57and also some patchy rain along the coast. It is going to be rather breezy.
01:01So a lot of weather, lots of different weather,
01:03but most of us will be immersed in that cold air and that means temperatures will struggle through the day, despite the fact we'll see
01:10some bright weather, hazy sunshine across England and Wales, brighter skies further north and west and always the chance of
01:17a scattering of snow showers across northern and western areas of Scotland, including Orkney as well as Shetland. Many areas, though,
01:24will be dry, although some showery bursts towards the southwest will continue through the afternoon and that sun will just come and go through the day.
01:33But temperatures will struggle. So across Scotland,
01:37we'll see temperatures coming in probably around 3 to 5 degrees Celsius at the very best. For Northern Ireland,
01:43it's possibly going to be a 6, if you're lucky, further south 7 or 8, but towards the far south 9 degrees Celsius,
01:51but always more clouds and the odd spot of 2 of rain.
01:54Now the frosts will return quite quickly through this evening and overnight,
01:59extending further south across England as well as Northern Ireland, northern parts of Wales.
02:03But the cloud will thicken across the rest of Wales, central southern England and the West Country. By midnight,
02:09we'll see the first of more persistent rain arriving into Thursday morning and a widespread frost to start the day towards the north, again with
02:16these showers across the far north, which will be wintry.
02:19So temperatures towards the far southwest will hold around 8 degrees Celsius, but close to freezing if not below further north.
02:25That means a cold start to Thursday, the risk of ice across more northern areas.
02:29And then notice this, as that rain encounters the cold air through Thursday morning,
02:34it is likely to turn to snow, especially over the higher ground.
02:38So the Welsh mountains and then eventually towards Pennine districts through the afternoon as this rain and some snow
02:45pushes in across Northern Ireland as well. To the south, we'll see some showers gather across Scotland.
02:51It's mostly dry, some hazy sunshine and again, one or two showers coming in on a cold wind here.
02:57So as we head through to Thursday evening, there could be some impactful snow, particularly over the high ground,
03:02but even at lower levels obviously will keep you posted here.
03:05And wherever you are away from the far south, it's going to be a cold day.
03:09I'll see you later.
