9 February - National weather forecast presented by Clare Nasir
Transcript
00:00Hello there, welcome to your weather update from the Met Office. The air turns steadily
00:05colder over the next few days, culminating in a severe frost on Thursday night and into
00:10Friday. Before that though, we hang on to some milder conditions just to the south of
00:14this weather front as it sinks down towards central southern England and Wales through
00:18the next 24 hours. Further north, cast your eyes to that area of low pressure, bringing
00:23with it gales, if not severe gales, through Thursday. And we are likely to see some snow
00:27accumulations on the higher ground, particularly of Scotland, but even the hills of Northern
00:32Ireland and Pennine districts over the next few days, associated with any showery bursts
00:37of rain and snow. So, let's backtrack to Tuesday evening. Here's your band of rain, so colder
00:43air towards the north with those wintry showers moving in across Northern Ireland as well
00:46through the night, and the rain could pep up for a time across the north-west of England
00:50as well as northern parts of Wales. Hanging on to some drier weather towards the south
00:54as well as the east, and a bright start to the day here, however, is not likely to last.
00:59This band of cloud and patchy rain will gradually move down towards these parts. In its wake,
01:04we will see some brighter weather, if not some sunshine, but always the risk of showers
01:08across Scotland as well as Northern Ireland and north-west England. Although, I'd say
01:12towards shelter, eastern areas getting away with some drier and even brighter weather
01:16through the day, as the rain just sort of dies out in situ across southern counties
01:22of England and Wales. However, we'll likely see more pulses coming in as we head through
01:26to Thursday morning across these parts. Temperatures then typically, well, around average, but
01:31feeling colder in that wind towards the north as well as the west. Here's your outlook
01:35through Thursday. Rain across more southern counties, further north, yes, we'd continue
01:40to see a feed of those showers, which actually could merge together to form a longer spell
01:44of rain and snow over the higher ground. But then after a frosty start on Friday, things
01:49look decidedly calmer as the winds ease and we'll see some sunshine. I'll see you later.
01:54Bye bye.
