00:00Good morning, welcome to your latest update from the Met Office. It's a rather wet start
00:04to the weekend for many of us around the UK and that's because we've seen a weather front
00:08move in overnight. It's bringing this fairly broad area of rain to many southern and central
00:13areas of the UK and there is a weather warning in force for parts of Dorset where there's
00:17already quite a lot of water on the roads and high river levels. The winds are also
00:22strengthening along the south coast through this morning. We'll see heavy bursts of rain
00:26across parts of South Wales as well as towards Northern Ireland. There's another rain warning
00:30in force for Northern Ireland as well as south-western Scotland, similar areas where we've seen a
00:34lot of heavy rainfall so far this week. This band of rain will slowly push north-eastwards
00:40throughout the day and behind it, it will turn drier and we'll also see some sunshine
00:45developing, but the winds will also start to pick up. That's as they strengthen around
00:50this area of low pressure, so particularly across any Irish sea coast, we'll see some
00:54very gusty winds. The rain then pushes up into north-eastern areas and will stall here,
01:00so there could be potentially some travel disruption across north-eastern areas through
01:04this afternoon. Under the cloud and rain across parts of Scotland, Northern England and Northern
01:09Ireland, it won't feel particularly pleasant. Highs of only around 8 or 9 degrees and it
01:13will feel a little bit colder than that. And in the south, highs of 13 or 14 degrees, but
01:17again not feeling quite as warm as that with the strength of the breeze. Throughout tonight
01:23is when we see a slight change as this area of low pressure that's bringing the rain through
01:27today does shift off to the east and that allows a bit of pressure to build. We get
01:33a bump in the ice paths developing ahead of this next weather front. So that does mean
01:38there will be a brief drier interlude through the course of tonight and into Sunday morning
01:42as well. So quite a lot of dry weather for southern areas to come this evening. The rain
01:47does persist at least through the first part of the night for many northern areas. It does
01:51tend to dry out through the course of the night. However, having said that, across the
01:55north-east of Scotland, the rain will really persist through much of the night. So a clearer
02:00night tonight than last night. Temperatures dipping down a little bit lower but still
02:04another mild night. Temperatures around 6 or 7 degrees. A little bit cooler across the
02:09high ground in Scotland. So we'll see that dry weather continue through tomorrow morning.
02:15So we'll actually see quite a nice start to the day across eastern areas of the UK but
02:20it does quickly cloud over through the morning as this area of rain sweeps through the UK
02:25over the course of the day. It will bring some quite heavy bursts and again it stalls
02:30across northern areas of Scotland. So these areas are already pretty sensitive to rainfall.
02:34The ground is quite saturated. So do take care if you're travelling in these areas.
02:37There could be some further flooding issues. We could also see some snow falling above
02:41around 600 metres in parts of the Highlands. But once again, similar to today, throughout
02:49tomorrow afternoon it will brighten up across the far west through the course of the day.
02:54But again, the winds do strengthen too. So despite the 13 or 14 degrees, it won't be
02:58feeling quite that warm. Next week we stick with the windy and wet weather. So it will
03:04be an unsettled start to the weekend, to the week ahead. But there are signs that from
03:09midweek onwards it will settle down. Have a great weekend.
