01 December - National weather forecast presented by Annie Shuttleworth.

00:00Hello. It's going to be a very cold night tonight. In fact, it's likely to be the coldest
00:04night of the week so far. That's because much of the country is under clear, starry skies,
00:10as you can see. There will be some cloud around in western areas as the showers in the Irish
00:15Sea start to push further inland. They could bring some snow to southwestern areas of Scotland
00:20as well as parts of Cumbria as well. Further east, you can see we've got this area of mist
00:26and fog developing quite widely once again. And that fog will be freezing fog. That's
00:32because temperatures are widely dropping below zero. By tomorrow morning, we could be down
00:35as low as minus 11 across parts of Aberdeenshire, minus 8 in rural Wales, but widely minus 3
00:41or 4 for many towns and cities. So as a result, there are some ice warnings in force for the
00:48night and through tomorrow morning across parts of Scotland, northwest England, as well
00:53as many eastern areas of England as well. That's why we've seen showers through the
00:57day that may have caused wet surfaces that could freeze overnight. There'll also be some
01:02snow showers continuing across southwestern Scotland throughout Saturday morning, mainly
01:07falling over the high ground above 1 or 200 metres. But there could be some sleetiness
01:11to lower levels across parts of the Lake District, for example, by lunchtime. Elsewhere, though,
01:17we'll see the mist and fog slowly clear, but it could remain quite murky for a lot of the
01:22morning across central and eastern areas. The best of the sunshine will be across northern
01:27areas of Scotland, but further south and west, you can see things starting to change a little
01:32bit with a greater risk of some showers as our winds shift to more of a southwesterly,
01:37which means temperatures will slowly rise through tomorrow afternoon. So that means
01:41it will feel a little bit less cold in the southwest. Elsewhere, though, still feeling
01:46bitterly cold, not much above freezing. Those showers in the southwest then do push further
01:51inland throughout Saturday night, and as they bump into the colder air, they could bring
01:56some snow to parts of Wales and central areas such as the Peak District, for example. There
02:01is a little bit of uncertainty with that one, but it's only likely to bring a little dusting
02:06of snow by Sunday morning. So as there's a bit more cloud around in the south, you would
02:11expect the temperatures to hold up a little bit, but it's still going to be another very
02:15cold start for many eastern areas, again as low as minus 10 for rural areas of Scotland.
02:22The rain then from the west then moves further inland through Sunday, so it's going to be
02:26a bit of a different day on Sunday. Generally quite a lot of cloud around and a risk of
02:30rain, perhaps some hill snow falling by the end of the day. There is a bit of uncertainty
02:35in the details across the south throughout Sunday, so do keep up to date with this. Further
02:39north, though, there's a clearer picture. It's going to be another cold and frosty day.
02:45Temperatures again hovering close to zero. Then as we head through Sunday evening and
02:50into Monday, that rain across the southwest will continue to become more of a feature.
02:55It does bring a continued risk of potentially some sleety snow. As I said, there is some
03:00uncertainty over the details of that, but across the north it will remain very cold.
