19 December - national weather forecast presented by Annie Shuttleworth.
Transcript
00:00Hello, staying unsettled for many of us in the run-up to Christmas but through
00:04the afternoon we should see some clearer and drier weather for a time spread
00:08across the country but it has been quite a wet start for many areas of the UK
00:12we've had this blanket of cloud across the country through this morning that's
00:16been brought by a weather front that has slowly been sinking southeastwards
00:20through the morning behind it is turning much drier and clearer however you can
00:25see the cloud bubbling up that will allow some showers across the northwest
00:29some of these quite heavy but there's still some rain to clear the southeast
00:32through the rest of the day we see the rain linger across parts of Kent and
00:36Essex into the afternoon but for many areas it should improve over the course
00:41of the afternoon bit of sunshine to come out by the end of the day however as I
00:45said showers are developing across more north and western areas and a brisk
00:49northwesterly breeze as well so that will bring a much colder feel to the end
00:54of the day temperatures are likely going to drop a couple of degrees by the end
00:57of the afternoon however in the far southeast where the cloud does linger it
01:01should stay fairly mild at least through the first part of the evening but for
01:06many of us it will be a colder night tonight as we've got fresher air and
01:11clearer spells developing particularly for more eastern areas parts of East
01:15Anglia into the southeast as well as eastern areas of Scotland Northeastern
01:19England it should stay clear and dry through much of the night further west
01:22though you're more likely to see a shower particularly across parts of
01:26Western Scotland Northern Ireland Northwest England as well where we see
01:30a brisk breeze continuing through much of the night as a result temperatures
01:34will be held up across these western areas but in the east where we see those
01:38clearer skies we could see a touch of grass frost by tomorrow morning so a
01:42colder feel to the start of the day and it should be a fine start to the day but
01:46on Wednesday afternoon we do see the next frontal system move in from the
01:50northwest it's a warm front so it should introduce milder air but it's been
01:54brought by a very strong jet stream and that will allow our winds to strengthen
01:58in towards Thursday so we're expecting a very windy day for many northern areas
02:03of the UK on Thursday however on Wednesday as I said a fairly fine start
02:08to the day particularly the further south and east you are but from the
02:12north and west cloud will thicken through the day and we'll see some
02:14drizzly rain starting to arrive this could be quite persistent particularly
02:19over the high ground and coastal areas close to Irish Sea coasts as well as
02:23parts of northwestern Scotland there'll also be a strengthening breeze on
02:27Wednesday it'll be a windier day I think than this afternoon here in the south
02:31and east so it should stay largely dry but by the end of the day it'll be much
02:35cloudier than the start of the day we have got a warm front moving in as I
02:40said on Wednesday so that means temperatures will rise so it will be a
02:43slightly warmer day than the end of Tuesday however with the strength of
02:48that breeze I think the temperatures will be slightly tempered the winds
02:52pick up once again into Thursday and there is a broad wind warning in force
02:56for many areas of the UK if you'd like any more details on that you can make
03:00sure you check them out on our website that's all for me for now and I'll see
03:04you later
