00:00Good morning, welcome to your latest Met Office update on this rather wet Tuesday for many of us.
00:06Already, first thing, we have heavy rain across parts of south-west Scotland,
00:10western parts of England and Wales, that rain having swept across Northern Ireland overnight.
00:16The heaviest rain is going to be over the highest ground in the west,
00:19could be 30-40mm over the hills and mountains of North Wales,
00:23and there will be some strong winds mixed in, gusts of around 30-40mph,
00:28perhaps even a little bit stronger than that in exposed spots to the west.
00:31A drier start towards the east, perhaps even a brighter one with some clear skies,
00:35but also a touch of frost maybe in a few places and some patches of fog,
00:40before the cloud and the rain then pushes its way in as we go through the morning.
00:44That rain does break up and ease a little bit as it makes its progress across the country,
00:48but there could still be some heavier bursts across eastern areas.
00:51Behind that then, something a bit drier, there will still be some outbreaks of rain around
00:56and there could still be some heavy bursts mixed in, particularly over higher ground in the west,
01:00but there should be some decent drier interludes for many of us, albeit likely to stay pretty cloudy.
01:06Any sunshine is going to be fairly limited, perhaps some brightness developing towards the south-west,
01:11and it is still going to be quite blustery.
01:13The strongest winds will be during the morning in the west and as that rain pushes across the country,
01:18but a blustery theme to things, and so although temperatures are going to be higher than on Monday,
01:23highs around 13 or 14 Celsius, it won't feel particularly pleasant,
01:27especially in those blustery winds and in any heavier rain.
01:31Not a huge amount to change as we go through the evening,
01:34staying fairly cloudy, some outbreaks of rain as well,
01:38and then a band of more persistent and heavy rain pushing in across parts of Northern Ireland
01:42and Scotland gradually making its way south-eastwards.
01:45Across much of England and Wales though, mostly dry through the early hours of Wednesday morning,
01:50pretty cloudy though and still quite blustery, some strong winds around,
01:53so temperatures aren't going to drop much.
01:55Many towns and cities holding up in double figures,
01:58but something a little bit colder starting to push in from the north-west behind this frontal system.
02:04That frontal system then bringing some heavy rain is gradually going to make its way south-eastwards
02:09as we go through the day on Wednesday,
02:11so bringing some outbreaks of rain across northern parts of England and later into north Wales too.
02:16Ahead of this, across the rest of England and Wales, staying mostly dry,
02:20very cloudy though and that cloud will be thick enough for a few spots of rain at times
02:24and some blustery winds here.
02:26The greatest chance of seeing some sunshine on Wednesday will be across parts of Scotland,
02:30perhaps the far north-west of Northern Ireland.
02:32Here some decent sunny swells should break out,
02:35but also a few showers to watch out for towards the north-west
02:38and here this is where we're going to have the strongest winds.
02:41A fairly blustery, windy day for many of us,
02:43but towards north-west Scotland the risk of gales or even severe gales around exposed areas.
02:49A bit of a north-south split in terms of our temperatures.
02:51For many it's going to be a fairly mild day,
02:54temperatures even higher than today, highs around 15 Celsius,
02:57but colder air coming in behind this frontal system
03:00means a chillier feel to things across much of Scotland,
03:03especially with those strong winds.
03:06More wet and windy weather to come as we go through the end of the week.
03:09It's always towards the west where we're going to see the heaviest rain
03:12and the strongest winds towards the north-west.
03:15Generally a mild theme to things, but similar to Wednesday,
03:18something a bit colder across northern parts, but most places feeling pretty mild.
03:22We'll have a more in-depth look at the weather at the moment in our deep dive,
03:26which will be available on our YouTube channel with Annie later on this afternoon.
03:30Otherwise, I'll see you again soon. Bye-bye.
