28 September - National weather forecast presented by Ellie Glaisyer.
Transcript
00:00Hello. After an autumnal couple of days, it looks like something a little bit more settled
00:05is on the horizon towards the end of this week and into the start of the weekend. However,
00:09before that, we have an area of low pressure skirting across the south of the UK through
00:13this evening and into tomorrow, but then a ridge of high pressure develops as we head
00:17through Friday and into Saturday. Doesn't look set to last too long, though, as we've
00:20got another area of low pressure waiting in the wings out to the west to bring further
00:24wet and windy weather as we head through Saturday and Sunday.
00:29Back to Thursday evening, though, and plenty of rain arriving from the southwest as we
00:33head through Thursday evening and into Friday morning. That's turning particularly heavy
00:37across the south of Wales and into central parts of the UK, with some quite high totals
00:41expected into the early hours of Friday morning. That does eventually slowly clear its way
00:46southeastwards into the early hours of Friday, with some showers across parts of Scotland,
00:50these perhaps turning heavy with the odd rumble of thunder possible. Some clearer spells developing,
00:55though, behind that frontal system and turning a little chillier here than recent nights
00:59with perhaps some rural spots dropping down into the high single figures, but remaining
01:03a little bit milder across the southeast with that cloud and rain.
01:07So a bit of a cloudy start across the southeast through Friday morning. That rain does quite
01:11quickly clear its way southeastwards, leaving a very dry and bright day for most of us.
01:17Some showers still pushing into the west across parts of Scotland. Again, we could hear the
01:21odd rumble of thunder here, but for much of England and Wales, a much more pleasant day.
01:25Plenty of sunshine around, still the odd isolated shower, but should be staying dry
01:29for most of us. There'll be lighter winds on Friday as well, particularly for the southern
01:33half of the UK, so feeling warm in that sunshine, with highs of 20, 21 degrees, but remaining
01:38a little bit cooler across northern parts of Scotland, with some strong winds still
01:42as low pressure is just out to the north.
01:45As we head through Friday evening, those showers continue across parts of Scotland, but gradually
01:50start to ease a little overnight, and further south, plenty of clear skies around. And with
01:55those light winds, we could see some patchy mist and fog forming into Saturday morning.
01:59It'll be a bit of a chillier night as well compared to recent nights, some rural spots
02:03perhaps dropping down into the low single figures, and we could see some patchy grass
02:07frost across parts of Northern Ireland, Northern England, and in parts of Scotland as well.
02:12So Saturday will start chillier than recent days, turning increasingly cloudy though as
02:17we head through the morning on Saturday. There's a band of rain pushing up from the southwest
02:22into Saturday afternoon, but further east, plenty of sunshine through the morning, those
02:26eastern coasts still staying sunny through much of the day as well. This cloud and rain
02:31continues to push its way north and eastwards as we head into Saturday afternoon, bringing
02:35some very wet weather and some stronger winds too.
02:39As we head through the rest of the weekend, that rain continues to push its way north
02:42and eastwards, but for more detail on that, you can check out the weekend weather forecast
02:47on YouTube. Bye bye.
