00:00Hi there. As we go through the first week of September, it's going to turn drier, sunnier
00:07and much warmer. But for the first day of the month at least, it's looking very like
00:13August has been with a lot of showers on the map there, especially across northern England,
00:19southern Scotland and Northern Ireland where there's fairly thick cloud and outbreaks of
00:23rain continuing in places. Scattered showers further south, some heavy downpours but also
00:27some sunny spells coming through. However, the driest and brightest weather will be north
00:31of the central belt. Northern Scotland faring well for sunny skies and highs of 20 Celsius
00:37there with low 20s further south where we do get some sunny spells coming through and
00:41a relatively humid feel in the south as well. Now the area of cloud across Northern Ireland
00:46is southern Scotland and northern England tends to sink slowly southwards through the
00:51evening and overnight. The showers in the south tend to die away and by dawn there'll
00:56be a lot of low cloud around, some mist, some fog patches as well. Northern Scotland
01:02keeping clear skies apart from the odd fog patch and here 2-4 Celsius is possible in
01:07some sheltered spots further south, a mild night, 12-15 Celsius. Then Saturday morning
01:14starts off with a lot of low cloud, some fog patches as well and it could take a few hours
01:20for that to clear. The low cloud eventually lifting and breaking so some sunny spells
01:27coming through by the afternoon but I think across some areas we'll keep a lot of cloud
01:31at least until the end of the afternoon. A few showers will develop especially across
01:36southern areas but not many. For the vast majority actually it's a dry day and in any
01:42sunny spells that do come through eventually 24, 25, possibly even 26 Celsius somewhere
01:48like London. Low 20s across northern England, southern Scotland, northern Ireland. Not feeling
01:54quite so warm as the breeze picks up in the north-west of Scotland and the cloud thickens
01:58later in the day and I think for the Outer Hebrides we'll see some outbreaks of rain
02:03turning up before the day is over. Elsewhere though any showers quickly disappear as the
02:10sun goes down. Clear skies then for many as we go into Saturday night and that will lead
02:15to once more some fog patches forming across southern parts as we wake up on Sunday but
02:21they'll clear by mid-morning and then a lot of sunshine once again across England, Wales,
02:27southern and eastern Scotland. Hazy sunshine at times because of the high cloud drifting
02:31south of a weather front that will continue to bring breezy and damp conditions to the
02:36far north and north-west of Scotland. Thicker cloud as well for northern Ireland and western
02:41Scotland, cooler here but elsewhere those temperatures are rising with the mid-20s possible,
02:48even 27 Celsius towards the south-east. And that warming trend continues into next week.
02:55High pressure really dominating throughout at least the first part of next week if not
03:00beyond. The high pressure tends to drift east as low pressure over Spain pushes north and
03:06reorientates the pattern so that we bring southerly winds up from the continent and
03:12waft an awful lot of warmth our way. And so temperatures rising through next week,
03:18mid to high 20s possible in places and that means that in some locations the official
03:24heatwave criteria may be met for the first time since June. So that's the first week
03:30of September as schools go back in England, Wales, northern Ireland. Of course the weather
03:37settles down and summer returns.
