00:00Hi there, some unseasonal weather coming along for Wednesday, wet and very windy in places
00:06as well. But before that happens, well actually Tuesday is mostly fine but not entirely. We've
00:12got the legacy of a frontal system giving a lot of cloud for southern Scotland, northern
00:15England, outbreaks of light rain turning to moderate or even in places heavy showers by
00:19the afternoon. One or two showers elsewhere, particularly towards the south and south-east
00:23of England, but a lot of dry weather and the cloud will break up in a few places to give
00:28some sunny spells. Low 20s where that occurs in the south, high teens further north. But
00:33the first signs of a change on the way for the Scilly Isles into the south-west of Cornwall
00:38by the end of the afternoon, outbreaks of rain and a keen breeze starting to arrive
00:43here. That rain, moderate to heavy, pushing through south-west England into Wales, northern
00:47Ireland by the evening and then across much of the rest of England, Wales into southern
00:52Scotland by dawn. So turning wet and increasingly breezy overnight, northern Scotland avoids
00:59the rain and with clear spells here and lighter winds, temperatures falling into the single
01:04figures. Elsewhere it's double figures, teens I think by dawn in many spots because of the
01:10breeze and the rain. The main rain is pushed ahead of this area of low pressure which is
01:16going to move across England and Wales during Wednesday. But the strongest winds will be
01:20on the southern flank of the low, particularly for northern France but also for coastal counties
01:25of England. So it's a breezy start on Wednesday, the winds picking up further as the main band
01:31of rain clears north into northern England, southern and central Scotland, pushing through
01:36northern Ireland. I think there will be again some longer spells of wet weather affecting
01:40southern areas but generally it's showers by the afternoon and those showers will be
01:45lively with the risk of hail, thunder and lightning across Wales and central parts of
01:50England in particular. Slow moving downpours could cause some impacts with the risk of
01:5440mm in a few hours. We'll see light winds through these central areas, hence the slow
02:00moving showers, but the showers will be pushed along quite quickly across southern counties
02:05where the winds will be reaching 50mph. So very unseasonal and certainly could cause
02:11impacts where we've got people camping or partaking in outdoor activities, particularly
02:17around some of these exposed coastal parts of southern England. Otherwise it does tend
02:23to brighten up and where we do see some brightness across central areas it will feel reasonably
02:28warm away from any of those downpours. The wet weather continues across north-east England
02:34into the evening before eventually fizzling away and showers replace the rain into Thursday
02:40and Friday. It's also going to turn much cooler later this week. So August starts off
02:46with some very un-August-like weather.
