20 July - National weather forecast presented by Aidan McGivern.
Transcript
00:00Hi there. Some fine weather to come during the next couple of days before low pressure
00:06returns this weekend. What we've got at the moment is a north-west of the airflow. No
00:11weather fronts close to the UK and as a result some dry and bright weather but the air from
00:17the north-west is cool and it's unstable so it does contain a lot of cloud and it contains
00:23some showers. The scattered showers that do occur on Thursday will be most frequent towards
00:28the north and the east, some heavy downpours in places but actually for some we'll be avoiding
00:34the showers and it will stay largely dry. Where that does occur, 22-23 Celsius in the
00:39south in any sunny spells with light winds will feel perfectly pleasant but we've got
00:46a brisk breeze towards the north and some longer spells of rain for Shetland not feeling
00:50so pleasant here. Then the showers in many places fade away into the evening but in some
00:57spots they will continue, central and eastern Scotland, northern Scotland as well. North-west
01:02England for example, parts of north Wales and northern Ireland just that signal for
01:07some longer spells of rain at times. A lot of cloud for northern Ireland, temperatures
01:12staying at 12 degrees here and in some main urban centres 11-13 Celsius but in sheltered
01:19rural spots where we've got the clear skies, for example central Scotland, 5-8 degrees
01:25so a bit of a chill first thing for the middle of July but actually some sunny spells and
01:30temperatures will rise however as those temperatures rise once again the clouds will bubble up
01:35and once again we'll see quite frequent showers, especially towards north-western areas first
01:39thing and then into the afternoon, northern and eastern Scotland, into northern and eastern
01:44England but some spots avoiding the showers altogether particularly towards the south
01:4820-21 perhaps 22 Celsius, a little on the cool side for the time of year but again feeling
01:55pleasant enough where we've got some sunshine coming through. Now for northern Ireland it's
02:00going to turn wetter by the afternoon and this is a sign of things to come. We've got
02:07that rain setting in, it's arriving from the west and it's just going to be a damp end
02:12to the week for northern Ireland and then north Wales, south-west Scotland seeing that
02:17rain by the end of Friday. A number of weather fronts on their way for the weekend then,
02:23an elongated area of low pressure, a fairly messy mix of cloud, rain, showers and quite
02:30a breeze at times as well into the weekend so increasingly unsettled. We'll have further
02:36details in the weekend forecast which you'll be able to find on YouTube later on Thursday
02:40but for now that's all from me, bye bye.
