00:00Hello and welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office. Over the next few days
00:04we'll see very unsettled weather conditions across the UK. Various hazards are likely
00:08to feature in the forecast, culminating in an amber rainfall warning across the south
00:12of Scotland during the day tomorrow. The reason for the very unsettled conditions is all down
00:16to a large temperature contrast north to south across the North Atlantic. That's generating
00:20a very powerful jet stream and pushing several areas of low pressure from west to east towards
00:25the UK, hence the unsettled conditions are set to continue. Looking at things in more
00:30detail as we head into the evening and into the overnight period and for a time we'll
00:34see some clear spells towards the north and east giving some icy patches, one or two wintry
00:37showers too. But notice wet and windy weather moving in from the west across many northern
00:42and western parts into the early hours. In the south east they're just holding on to
00:46the drier conditions towards the morning. You could see a touch of frost in the south
00:49but it's towards the north where we'll see the most unpleasant conditions, snow falling
00:53particularly on the hills, windy conditions here and I'd say some icy patches in places
00:57too. Rain, snow and ice warnings feature in the forecast tomorrow across the north of
01:02the UK, so an amber rainfall warning being forced across the south of Scotland until
01:06lunchtime. Elsewhere, snow and ice are likely towards the north of Scotland, heavy rain
01:10for a time across Northern Ireland and other parts of Scotland too. Generally things improve
01:14from the south west as we go into the afternoon, so some brighter skies coupled with some showers
01:18going into the afternoon, but further snow and ice continue to affect parts of Scotland
01:22into the evening. Temperatures on the face of it, not too bad in the south, up to 12
01:26or 13 degrees, struggling to get above freezing in one or two spots in the north and here
01:30with that wind feeling pretty chilly and certainly a blustery wind with gales across some exposed
01:35southern and western parts of the UK. As we go into New Year's Eve, we'll see further
01:39wet and windy weather moving in from the south west across many parts of the UK, although
01:43towards the north we hold on to some colder conditions, some brighter conditions at times
01:47coupled with scattered showers, so showers falling asleep or snow, especially on the
01:51hills. Here in the north, temperatures struggling to get above freezing, whereas down towards
01:55the south, highs of 13 or 14, so a fairly mild day, but academic given those pretty
01:59unpleasant conditions. And that's pretty much it from me, but of course you can keep tuned
02:03to the Met Office forecast by following us on social media. I'll see you soon, take care
02:07for now, bye bye.
