16th August - National weather forecast
Transcript
00:00Hi there, welcome to the latest from the Met Office. There will be some sunshine for a
00:04lucky few, especially towards the north-east of the UK during the rest of Monday, but an
00:09awful lot of cloud affects many other parts of the country, along with a few showers.
00:14A weak weather front bringing some outbreaks of rain to East Anglia into the south-east,
00:18that tending to ease later, whilst this north-westerly breeze continues to feed showers and cloudy
00:24skies into western Scotland, Northern Ireland, parts of north-west England and Wales.
00:30Away from that north-westerly breeze, actually some decent sunny spells breaking out across
00:34eastern Scotland, parts of north-east England as well, and it will feel pleasant enough
00:38in that sunshine out of the breeze, but nothing spectacular as far as temperatures are concerned
00:43and it will certainly feel on the cool side towards the north-west where we are exposed
00:48to that breeze. Some bright spells for the south, and more especially as we end the day
00:53for the east of the UK, and we keep those clear skies for the first part of the night
00:57with temperatures dipping into the single figures. Meanwhile, thickening cloud, lowering
01:01cloud as well, brings increasing outbreaks of rain to Scotland, Northern Ireland, and
01:06then eventually parts of northern England, Wales and the Midlands by the end of the night.
01:11That will of course help temperatures stay up at 12 to 14 Celsius, whilst we keep the
01:17relatively cool conditions towards the far east of England. Here's the weather front
01:21responsible for that thickening cloud, it will bring a deterioration in conditions as
01:26we head through Tuesday and into Wednesday for north-western areas especially. But for
01:31the start of Tuesday, well it's dull, damp and gloomy for many, especially central and
01:37northern parts of the country. Now by the afternoon it's Northern Ireland, parts of
01:41northern England, the Midlands, East Anglia and Wales where we keep the low cloud, we
01:46keep those outbreaks of rain, especially towards north-western hills. But either side of that,
01:51actually, some decent drier and brighter spells emerging. So for parts of southern
01:55England into central and eastern Scotland, the sky is brightening as well. And it's across
02:01parts of Scotland where the highest temperatures will be I think, especially towards the south-east
02:04of Scotland, Edinburgh, the Lothians, borders potentially seeing 23 Celsius. Otherwise it's
02:10going to feel cool through this central swathe where we've got the low cloud and those bits
02:14and pieces of rain and drizzle. That weather tends to ease a little later Tuesday but we
02:20keep the relatively humid north-westerly airflow going into Wednesday. So Wednesday
02:26looks generally cloudy towards the west and north-west with further spots of rain and
02:31drizzle at times. The best of any sunny spells to the south and the east. Bye bye.
