17th August - National weather forecast
Transcript
00:00Hello and welcome to the latest from the Met Office. A dull and damp start to Tuesday for
00:05many of us. It will turn brighter in the north east and the far south by the afternoon. But
00:10actually a lot of cloud across the UK and we end Monday with generally cloudy skies
00:16in the west whilst the best of any clear spells will be across the Midlands, eastern and southern
00:20England. That's where temperatures will dip early in the night, single figures, but this
00:25feed of low cloud and outbreaks of persistent rain and driddle will turn up from the north
00:31west. And for Scotland, Northern Ireland, Northern England, North Wales and the North
00:35Midlands, it's a dull and damp end to the night with some persistent rain, especially
00:40over the hills in the west. That will actually lead to slightly higher temperatures, a more
00:47humid end to the night in places, but staying cool in the far south east with some sunshine
00:52first thing on Tuesday. Here are the weather fronts responsible, this feed of more humid
00:58air coming in from the north west, a lot of extensive low cloud as well across central
01:03and northern parts of the country and those outbreaks of persistent light rain and drizzle
01:08first thing. Now the wettest weather moves away, moves south east during the morning
01:14and then by the afternoon is generally cloudy skies but the dampness largely confined to
01:21hills across Wales, north west England, south west Scotland and Northern Ireland. A few
01:26bits and pieces of rain elsewhere but many places turn a little drier later on even if
01:31it does stay generally dull through this central slice. It brightens up meanwhile across the
01:36far south of England and more especially central and eastern Scotland where actually temperatures
01:41will benefit from the north west of the air flow in the south east, Edinburgh potentially
01:46seeing 23 Celsius, that could be the hot spot on Tuesday afternoon. Cool through these
01:52central areas though, 15 to 18 degrees where we've got the cloudy skies and the cloud and
01:58light rain and drizzle pushes a little further south by the end of Tuesday night whilst we
02:03keep clear spells there for eastern Scotland and north east England. But a mild night to
02:09come because of this north westerly cloudy slightly more humid air flow, 13 to 15 Celsius.
02:16And a sunny start for some, especially the north east and as well as the south east of
02:22Scotland, that's where the best of the sunshine has been as we started the week and that's
02:26where it will continue Tuesday and Wednesday. But for many it's a cloudy day and there'll
02:31be further generally light drizzly showers in places especially towards the west and
02:37the far north of Scotland also seeing some more persistent showers pushing in and a cooler
02:42air flow as well for the far north of Scotland. Elsewhere however where we get some brightness
02:47coming through it won't feel too unpleasant, light winds, temperatures into the low 20s.
02:52But the weather turns more humid from the south west on Thursday and Friday, not only
02:57will that make it feel a little warmer but it will also bring an increased threat of
03:01some heavy rain or showers. You can stay up to date with it all of course by following
03:05the Met Office on social media, heading to the website and app. But for now that's everything
03:10I've got, bye bye.
