12 August - National weather forecast
Transcript
00:00Hello again. For many, it was a dull and fairly damp day on Wednesday, but some parts of the
00:06UK had some sunshine and there will be again some sunny spells around during Thursday.
00:11However, we are looking at some increasingly blustery conditions across parts of Northern
00:15Ireland and Western Scotland during the day. The rain from Wednesday was being created
00:21by this set of weather fronts. Now, they're fizzling out, but the low pressure system
00:25that May came from isn't. It's moving closer and the ice bars are squeezing together, hence
00:31why the winds will be picking up across Northern Britain during Thursday and why there'll be
00:36lots of showers close to that low. But let's get back to Wednesday evening because the
00:41weather front's still providing some heavy burst of rain for a time over parts of Northern
00:45England before heading south and kind of fizzling out. So, skies clearing across Scotland and
00:50Northern England, allowing things to turn quite chilly, staying fairly cloudy with a
00:54bit of drizzle here and there over parts of the Midlands and Southern England, staying
00:58quite warm here as well with temperatures holding up at 15 or even 16 degrees, whereas
01:03with the clearest skies further north, it will be quite chilly with some rubble spots
01:07across Scotland down to 3 to 5 Celsius. On to Thursday then and we'll have a lot of cloud,
01:13I think, across parts of the Midlands, East Anglia and Southern England. A bit of drizzle
01:17here and there, especially through parts of Devon and Somerset, but some uncertainty about
01:21the position of that weather front could just drift a little further north. Here come
01:26the blustery showers into Northern Ireland, West and Scotland by the end of the day. But
01:30in between, large parts of the country for most of the day will be dry and bright with
01:35at times some sunshine coming through. It will feel cool though, especially as those
01:39winds get very lively later on across the northwest, temperatures only really struggling
01:44up into the high teens at best. But in the sunny spells elsewhere, low 20s, maybe again
01:49quite warm across the southeast, 24 or 25 is possible if we see some decent spells
01:54of sunshine. The blustery showers keep going through Thursday evening. You can see them
01:59spiralling around that area of low pressure, staying very gusty. Lots of showers packing
02:03in here and they'll still be around on Friday. Initially, really just across the Highlands
02:08and the Western Isles, but becoming more widespread through the day. So showers across Northern
02:12Ireland and even further south, we could well see some showers over Northern England and
02:17it's likely to cloud over in the southwest during Friday with maybe some patchy drizzly
02:22rain and misty, murky conditions later on. But for many central and eastern parts, most
02:28of Friday will also be dry and bright, but it will be somewhat breezy, temperatures around
02:33or a touch below average. And again, feeling colder further north with the gusty winds
02:38and the frequent showers. Has to be said, there's quite a bit of uncertainty at the
02:41moment about what happens at the weekends. We'll firm up on that over the next day or
02:46so. But for more details on that uncertainty, why not watch our 10 day trend. You can get
