12 July - National weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin
Transcript
00:00Welcome to your national weather updates.
00:02It's felt like a bit of a spin cycle through this week,
00:04and there is more wet and windy weather to come.
00:07But for many, Thursday does look a little bit drier.
00:11Now, still some heavy showers around during Wednesday
00:13evening, but they should tend to fade in many locations.
00:16Certainly, much of the Midlands, eastern England
00:18will become dry and clear.
00:20And actually, the heavy downpours across Scotland
00:22will steadily ease, so most dry here by dawn.
00:25Temperatures holding up at 11 to 14.
00:27Some rural spots may dip to single figures
00:29where the winds ease off.
00:31And the winds will be a little bit lighter on Thursday,
00:34and there won't be as many showers around.
00:36In fact, for much of central and eastern England,
00:39a decent chance of a largely sunny start.
00:42But there'll always be more cloud coming in from the west,
00:45and we will then see the showers developing
00:47from mid-morning onwards.
00:49Not as many showers, not as frequent, and not as heavy.
00:53That said, there'll still be some pretty lively ones
00:55across northeast Scotland come the afternoon
00:58and eastern England.
00:59But here in the sunny spells, temperatures
01:01could creep up to 22 or 23.
01:03Now, for Wales and southwest England,
01:06a good chance that most of the day will be dry.
01:08But notice there is more cloud and outbreaks of rain
01:11starting to trickle in.
01:13That will spread its way across parts of Northern Ireland,
01:16Wales, and then into northern England and Scotland
01:19during Thursday evening.
01:20Further south, mostly staying dry for now.
01:24But behind me, some fairly ugly looking rain.
01:27Not one, but two weather systems gathering out in the Atlantic,
01:30kind of merging together.
01:32But this one in particular developing
01:34into quite an area of low pressure.
01:36The isobar squeezing together there,
01:38suggesting the winds will pick up on seasonably windy
01:41conditions then as this one moves in on Thursday
01:44night and during Friday.
01:46And that will then dominate our weather,
01:48bringing bands of wet and windy conditions across the UK
01:52into the weekend.
01:54So here's Friday's chart.
01:55There's that rain initially coming
01:56into Wales and southwest England.
01:58Some bright colours there as the winds start to pick up.
02:01It is going to turn very blustery across Wales,
02:04southwest England, then for northern Ireland.
02:06Question marks about how quickly the rain gets
02:08into eastern and northern England,
02:10but it will eventually.
02:11Parts of Scotland may well have a largely dry day on Friday.
02:15But even here, that rain is going
02:16to push in during Friday evening and overnight.
02:19Temperatures on Friday, well, before the rain
02:21arrives in the east, we could get up into the 20s, 22,
02:2423 degrees with a bit of sunshine.
02:26As things turn wet and windy further west,
02:28although it's not cold air that's arriving,
02:30obviously it's not going to feel all that
02:32pleasant with the outbreaks of rain and the gusty conditions.
02:35That wet and windy weather will then, as I say,
02:38dominate our weather into the weekend.
02:40For more on that low pressure system,
02:42watch our 10-day trend video.
02:44That'll be on YouTube for Wednesday afternoon.
