20 July - National weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin

00:00Welcome to your latest updates from the Met Office. It was always going to be
00:04cooler today, still very warm in some spots but of course it's always relative.
00:10Some heavy showers just grazing the eastern sides of England and we're
00:14likely to see one or two heavy thundery showers breaking out during the
00:18afternoon for which we have a Met Office yellow warning in place. Quite a lot of
00:22cloud around but we are likely to see some thundery showers breaking out over
00:26parts of the Midlands, eastern and southeastern England and it's in this
00:30zone where temperatures are again going to get to well above average but of
00:34course nowhere near as high as yesterday. We could peak still at 30 degrees
00:38Celsius but further west we've already started to see things cooling off
00:42considerably and temperatures back much closer to average low to mid-20s. The
00:47thundery showers though as I said could cause some disruption, a lot of rains
00:51falling in a short space of time. Very hit-and-miss though in this central and
00:55eastern zone of England, not everywhere seeing those downpours. Of course rain
00:59will be welcome across the east where it has been very dry recently. Elsewhere
01:03most places dry, clear spells allowing temperatures in some rural spots to dip
01:08down to single figures and most towns and cities 12 to 14 or 15 so again much
01:14cooler, much more comfortable. Of course it does take a few days and nights for
01:19your house to cool down so it'll probably still feel pretty warm through
01:22the evening time. Any showers dying out through the early hours and then
01:27Thursday generally a dry day maybe one or two scattered showers over northwest
01:30England, southwest Scotland. Quite a bit of cloud around but we should see some
01:33sunny spells breaking through particularly West Wales, southwest
01:36England, western and northern parts of Scotland where temperatures will again
01:40be in the mid-teens. Elsewhere low 20s maybe mid-20s across the south again
01:46much closer to average for the time of year. A bit of a breeze picking up along
01:50that east coast over the next couple of days making it feel a little fresher
01:53here and perhaps at times just threatening some mist and low cloud.
01:56Again one or two showers continuing into the evening over northwest England but
02:00otherwise most places dry. We're back to much more typical summer conditions now
02:05over the next few days, high pressure moving in. There's the threat of some
02:08thunderstorms across the south on Friday and then we look out to the Atlantic as
02:13low pressure and weather front start to move in and as they do they'll bring
02:17cooler and wetter weather into the northern and western parts of the UK
02:21but notice down to the south and east and the influence of high pressure
02:26actually temperatures could rise again at this weekend so we could see
02:29temperatures back into the 30s across parts of eastern England particularly so
02:33on Sunday. Nothing like yesterday's temperatures of course but just you know
02:39it's still plenty of warmth around. So more mixed conditions over the next few
02:42days as I said and do watch out for those thunderstorms, more details of that
02:46weather warning on our app and on our website.
