00:00Welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office.
00:03Turning into quite a wet day across much of the United Kingdom.
00:07The satellite image shows an awful lot of cloud.
00:09Here's the UK, one swirl here, another one out in the Atlantic.
00:14That's a big area of low pressure that dominates our weather
00:17and is throwing up these bands of showers.
00:20This one in particular brought some very heavy rain
00:23across parts of eastern England earlier,
00:25some thunderstorms mixed in and it's all moving northwards.
00:28This rain is further west than we were expecting this time yesterday.
00:32So it is going to be a wetter day for north-west England and south-west Scotland.
00:36More rain to come over north-east England and south-east Scotland too.
00:40There'll be some showers following on across east Anglia and the south-east,
00:43but it is turning a bit drier and brighter here.
00:45And certainly compared to yesterday, it's a drier, brighter day for Northern Ireland,
00:48much of south Wales and south-west England with some sunshine.
00:51Mostly fine across the far north-west too.
00:53And it is pretty mild where it's dry.
00:56Temperatures well above average, bit of sunshine in the south, 19 Celsius is possible.
01:00But it doesn't feel all that mild stuck under that cloud and rain
01:03over much of northern England and southern Scotland this afternoon.
01:07That will continue to spiral into parts of eastern Scotland
01:11through this evening and overnight.
01:13We'll eventually see some getting across the Highlands and the Western Isles too.
01:16So a fairly wet night across northern Scotland,
01:19drier and clearer to the south of that band of rain.
01:22And that could allow things to turn quite foggy across Northern Ireland,
01:25northern England, parts of the Midlands for a time.
01:28And then the breeze picks up and further bands of showers come into the south-west.
01:32But that breeze is continually feeding warm air up from the south.
01:36So it is going to be a mild night.
01:38Friday is, broadly speaking, a day of sunshine and showers.
01:41Going to start with persistent rain over northern Scotland.
01:44But these bands of showers will head their way northwards
01:47and they'll dominate the weather through the day.
01:49Some heavy downpours, but tending to zip through because it will be quite blustery.
01:54Not too many getting to eastern England.
01:56So here, actually, a drier day to come tomorrow compared to today.
02:00And skies again should brighten across parts of northwest Scotland.
02:04Elsewhere, well, there'll be some brightness, but only between the showers,
02:07which will be heavy, as I said, zipping through on that fairly brisk wind.
02:11Temperatures again on the mild side.
02:13When the sun pops out between the showers,
02:15we could easily get into the mid to high teens.
02:18But when the showers come along because of that wind,
02:20it will often feel cooler than that.
02:23As we go through Friday evening, the showers will continue to track northwards.
02:27Nowhere immune to them, I don't think.
02:29So bear that in mind if heading out on Friday night.
02:31You can see with the wind circulating around here,
02:33we've got a new area of low pressure situated across Ireland.
02:37That one will control our weather through Friday night.
02:40There's another one down to the southwest,
02:42but there is a little window between the two.
02:44A brief bump in the ice bars,
02:46which suggests much of the south will be looking drier on Saturday
02:50before low pressure returns up from the southwest.
02:53So if we rewind the clock and run that sequence again,
02:58focusing where our winds are coming from,
03:00they're continually coming in from the southwest.
03:02So always drawing up that warmer air as we go through the weekend
03:06and probably beyond into next week as well.
03:09So the weekend won't be cold.
03:11It's going to be pretty mild through this weekend.
03:14But with those low pressure systems nearby,
03:16there are going to be showers around.
03:18So that little window suggesting much of the south will be dry on Saturday,
03:23but showers everywhere on Sunday.
03:25As I said, it's going to be mild both by day and by night.
03:28A full detailed weekend forecast will be available on our YouTube channels
03:32by Thursday afternoon.
