20 September - National weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin
Transcript
00:00Hello.
00:01For most, a fine Monday out there
00:03with plenty of September sunshine.
00:05There are, as always, one or two exceptions.
00:08Much of eastern England not seeing a lot of sunshine,
00:11staying fairly cloudy, and clouding over
00:13in the northwest of Scotland as well,
00:15with actually some outbreaks of rain here too.
00:18The reason, well, a couple of weather fronts,
00:19one approaching the northwest.
00:21And this one brought some very heavy downpours
00:23during Sundays, still lingering across parts
00:26of Lincolnshire, East Anglia, and the far southeast.
00:29So staying fairly cloudy in this zone.
00:31And there will, at times, be a little bit of a rain
00:33and drizzle.
00:34And that rain, just at times, creeping in
00:36from the weather fronts across the highlands of Scotland
00:39also, perhaps still being a bit damp through Northern Ireland
00:41and certainly clouding over here.
00:43But for much of southern Scotland,
00:45most of northern England, Wales, the Midlands,
00:47and southern England, it's a fine day out there.
00:50And the wind's pretty light, feels pretty warm.
00:52Temperature's getting into the low 20s, 21 or 22
00:55is possible.
00:56Obviously, a little cooler with that cloudier zone
00:58across eastern England and the cloudier
01:00and increasingly windy conditions
01:02across the northwest.
01:03Still some showery rain across East Anglia
01:05and the southeast through this evening,
01:07but it should fizzle out before midnight.
01:09A rain band trickling southwards,
01:11but really fizzling also as it spreads southwards.
01:15So just really a band of cloud getting
01:16into northern England and north Wales by dawn.
01:19Behind that, we could see some thick fog patches.
01:22And further south as well, we could
01:23see a little bit of mist and fog forming
01:25through the early hours.
01:26Temperatures will fall away where the clouds remain away.
01:30Temperatures dropping down to single figures,
01:32even in some urban areas.
01:33So a little bit fresh on Tuesday morning.
01:36There will, as I say, be some fog patches around as well.
01:38And it could be quite thick.
01:40It could take a few hours to clear away.
01:42A cloudier start across the Midlands, northern England.
01:45So that cloud should melt away.
01:47Again, there'll be some showery rain, perhaps
01:50in the afternoon, across the Highlands and the Western
01:52Isles, where it will be turning increasingly windy.
01:55Elsewhere, the wind's pretty light.
01:57And with hazy sunshine, it'll feel pleasantly warm again
02:01with temperatures in the high teens or the low 20s.
02:03But the wind's really picking up through Tuesday evening.
02:06In the northwest, there's another weather front
02:09approaching.
02:09And as that sinks southwards, the winds
02:11will really get going.
02:13Could easily see gales across the northwestern corner
02:16through Tuesday evening.
02:17Gusts of 50, perhaps even 60 miles an hour
02:20in exposed places overnight into Wednesday.
02:23Elsewhere, the wind's fairly light.
02:24And again, in the south, there could be some mist and fog
02:27as we head into Wednesday.
02:29Weather fronts across the far northwest,
02:31a sign of things turning much more unsettled
02:34through the rest of this week.
02:35Some strong winds across the north with rain at times.
02:38Whereas in the south, although the winds will be picking up,
02:41it'll mostly stay fine.
02:43We'll have a full week ahead forecast for you
