00:00Hello, welcome to your latest update from the Met Office.
00:03Plenty more September sunshine for most parts of the country
00:07today.
00:08Light winds for most of us as well,
00:09but it is clouding over in Western Scotland.
00:12It's getting quite windy here, with the strongest winds
00:15overnight.
00:16Here's the big pitch.
00:17You can see quite a lot of cloud on the satellite image,
00:19but this is mostly very high cirrus, very thin cloud,
00:23and it's just making the sunshine a little hazy
00:25in places.
00:26But the cloud is thickening in Western Scotland,
00:28a bit of drizzly rain pushing into the Western Isles,
00:31trickling into the Highlands as well.
00:33Maybe the odd spot in the northwest of Northern Ireland
00:35as well.
00:36But for most places, dry and fine.
00:37Some cloud will bubble up through the day.
00:40Most places hanging on to the hazy sunshine, though.
00:43And it is pretty warm.
00:44It's been a very warm September.
00:45That continues widely over 20 Celsius,
00:49certainly across most of England and Wales.
00:50And in Northeast Scotland, 22, maybe 23 Celsius here,
00:54but cooler with that wetter weather in the Northwest.
00:57Now, most of that rain fairly light,
00:58as it trickles its way southwards.
01:00But later in the night, a more active weather front
01:03swings in.
01:03That'll bring some heavy rain to the northwest of Scotland
01:07and also some gusty winds.
01:08Overnight gusts of 15 in exposed places,
01:11maybe as much as 60 miles an hour.
01:14Further south, though, the winds stay fairly light,
01:17a bit breezier than last night.
01:18That will help to prevent mist and fog for many.
01:20But with the lightest winds in the south here,
01:22some mist and fog patches are likely
01:24across Southern England and South Wales to start Wednesday
01:27morning, and it will turn quite chilly as well
01:29with those clear skies, certainly
01:31across the Midlands, parts of Southern England,
01:33temperatures down into single digits.
01:36On to the details for Wednesday, and for many,
01:38it's another fine day.
01:39We will start, I suspect, with more clouds
01:41across parts of Northern England,
01:43maybe the odd spot of rain.
01:44Quite a wet day in Western Scotland,
01:46but it'll take most of the day before that rain
01:48creeps its way slowly towards Glasgow,
01:51and eventually some rain arriving
01:52on the north coast of Northern Ireland.
01:54But Belfast, Edinburgh, probably staying dry and bright
01:57throughout, and certainly across the south,
01:59plenty more sunny spells.
02:00And the far north of Scotland will actually brighten up
02:02after a wet start to the day.
02:05Still quite windy, although the strongest winds
02:06will be overnight, but a gusty day at times
02:09across Northern Britain, making it feel a little cooler,
02:12even though temperatures will still be above average.
02:14And further south, we're again looking at temperatures
02:17widely over 20 Celsius, 23 as possible across the southeast.
02:22That rain band will spread into central Scotland
02:24during Wednesday evening, and we'll
02:26see some outbreaks of rain trickling southwards
02:28across Northern Ireland also, and some showers
02:31following into the far north, where
02:32it stays pretty blustery.
02:34In fact, it's going to be quite windy through the rest
02:36of this week across Northern Britain.
02:38Weather systems moving in here.
02:40Weather fronts at times bringing some showery rain,
02:42but all the time, this area of high pressure
02:44keeping things mostly fine across the south.
02:48So a bit of a north-south split through the rest of this week.
02:50Many places will stay dry and bright with sunny spells,
02:54but certainly across the north, it will be windy at times.
02:56But overall, although there'll be some chilly mornings,
02:59temperatures remain above average for the time of year.
