00:00Thanks for joining me for your latest weather update from the Met Office.
00:04Thankfully, it's been much drier today across much of England,
00:08where we've had the torrential rain over the past few days.
00:10Far from dry, though, in northern Scotland.
00:12Quite a wet day here.
00:13The rain is starting to ease, though.
00:15A scattering of showers here and there through the night.
00:18But for many, it will be a dry night.
00:20These northerly winds, though, are bringing colder air.
00:23So certainly a chill in the air first thing on Wednesday morning,
00:27particularly across Scotland, where the skies are clear.
00:29A hint of frost likely elsewhere.
00:31Temperatures mostly holding up at about 6, 7, 8 degrees Celsius in towns and cities.
00:37But it will be lower in rural spots.
00:39Certainly milder nights in the south compared to further north.
00:42Double digits here because there will be more cloud around.
00:45The colder air never really gets that far south.
00:48But it will make for a great start in the morning across southern counties of England.
00:51A little bit of rain here and there.
00:52And then as we go through the day, we're going to see further rain coming into Wales and southwest England.
00:57That's going to kind of organise itself into quite a broad area of wet weather by the end of the day.
01:03But for much of the day, northern England, northern Ireland and a good chunk of Scotland will be dry and bright.
01:08We'll even see some sunny spells coming through.
01:11But after that cold start, temperatures will struggle to get up to the average for the time of year,
01:16staying just a bit below at 12, 13, 14 Celsius.
01:19And further south, we should see temperatures getting up into the mid or even high teens.
01:23But obviously, it won't feel as mild here with the rain and the increasing breeze picking up into the far southwest.
01:31This zone of wet weather will continue to track its way northwards.
01:35Then it's going to kind of pivot around.
01:36So we need to keep an eye on this rain as it marches northwards and starts to kind of grind to a halt over northeast England in particular.
01:44With these easterly winds feeding in the moisture from the North Sea, it could be a very soggy start to Thursday.
01:50And that rain may well persist for most of the day over northeast England.
01:54We do have a Met Office yellow weather warning in place for that rain.
01:58We'll also see some of that rain getting into southern Scotland for a time, northern Ireland and maybe parts of north Wales.
02:04Further south, one or two heavy showers could break out on Thursday afternoon, parts of Lincolnshire and East Anglia.
02:09But much of southern England, south Wales dry and bright on Thursday with some decent spells of sunshine.
02:15Still got the northerly breeze bringing a few scattered showers over northern parts of Scotland.
02:20Temperatures here again struggling 10 or 11 at best and similar temperatures with this persistent rain.
02:25Southeast Scotland, northeast England temperatures could really struggle here with that breeze coming in from the North Sea.
02:30But in the south, we should again get into the high teens where we see a little bit of sunshine.
02:36Then that weather system will start to clear away.
02:39It's from an area of low pressure, which if we rewind the clock at time of recording is out in the Atlantic.
02:46This was the low that brought the rain over the weekend.
02:48That's cleared away. But look what's happening now.
02:50It's out in the Atlantic. The jet stream is getting energised.
02:53That's what's bringing the low pressure system in through the next 24 hours and bringing again some heavier rain for Thursday.
03:02But after that, this low pressure system will then start to pull away.
03:07And that allows the northerly winds to feed in some colder air right across the UK for Friday and into the start of the weekend.
03:15But at the same time, higher pressure should also bring something a little drier.
03:20There's an awful lot going on. So make sure you keep up to date with the forecast.
