00:04plenty going on with the weather over the next 48 hours or so as things turn wet and
00:09windy on Friday. So make the most of Thursday's dry and bright weather if that's what you
00:13like during autumn. It's not completely dry, a speckling of showers here on the radar earlier.
00:19But for many places, as I said, a dry and a bright day on Thursday. But looming out
00:24in the Atlantic, big heads of cloud. And this weather system in particular is going to intensify
00:30as it rushes towards the UK over the next 24 hours, bringing a spell of windy weather to all
00:36parts of the UK, but particularly close to the low across northern parts of Scotland.
00:40And these weather fronts will bring a spell of rain swinging across the UK during Friday as well.
00:46That's all to come out. Let's come back to the rest of Thursday. It's not completely dry,
00:50as I said, a speckling of showers just drifting from northeast England to the west of the
00:54Pennines. And by this afternoon, one or two getting into East Anglia and the Midlands.
00:59Generally elsewhere, it's a dry afternoon, some cloud, yes, but some decent spells of sunshine.
01:04And the winds are not as strong as recent days. It feels a little bit warmer, with temperatures
01:09close to average for the end of September 14 to 17, perhaps 18 Celsius in the sunshine.
01:14It doesn't feel too bad. Temperatures will drop fairly smartly this evening, however.
01:19Still a few showers around early on this evening over parts of the Midlands, perhaps southeast
01:24England. But they should tend to fade away. And then for most of England and Wales, it will be
01:28a dry night, initially clear, but it's getting to that time of year where mist and fog will start
01:34to form. And that could be make for some fairly gloopy conditions first thing on Friday morning.
01:39Further north and west, however, fog is not the issue because wind and rain are arriving,
01:45making for a very different day on Friday from that weather system we saw earlier.
01:49The wind and rain keeping the temperatures up in the northwest are double figures. But for
01:53England and Wales, certainly across these eastern areas with light winds, clear skies
01:57are likely to drop down to five or six degrees, even in towns and cities a touch lower in the
02:02countryside. So a chilly start and some of that fog could take a while to clear from parts of
02:06the Midlands, Lincolnshire, Vale of York, East Anglia. But it should disappear as we go through
02:11the morning. East Anglia, the southeast, staying dry and bright for most of daylight hours. But
02:17look at the wet weather swinging in across Scotland, Northern Ireland, heavy rain as well,
02:20those brighter colours there. And certainly by lunchtime into parts of northern England, Wales
02:25and then spreading across the Midlands and southwest England during the afternoon,
02:29reaching East Anglia and the southeast around about tea time. The winds picking up as that
02:33band of rain swings through also. So a spell of three, four, maybe five hours of rain moving
02:39through Scotland and Northern Ireland turning brighter come the afternoon, but with some
02:43blustery showers as well. Temperature wise as well, similar to today's values, but obviously
02:49feeling a lot cooler with the wind and the rain arriving. Speaking of the winds, let's take a
02:55closer look at the gusts because the strongest gusts are going to be across northern Scotland
02:59through the early hours, first part of the morning across the Western Isles,
03:03but then increasingly across the Northern Isles as we head through Friday afternoon.
03:07So it's showing the peak gusts. We could have 60 mile an hour gusts, maybe 75 mile an hour gusts
03:14in some exposed parts of the Northern Isles before they start to ease on Friday evening.
03:18But even further south, we won't see those kind of gusts, but it will be a blustery end to the
03:23day, particularly along the south coast and up through the Dover Strait. Some gusty winds
03:27come Friday evening. With all that in mind, we have issued a Met Office yellow wind warnings to
03:33cater for those strong gusts and a rain warning to across parts of Scotland a little further south
03:39as that rain could be fairly heavy and last for a number of hours. But that rain band will move
03:44through. But look at this for Friday evening. If you're travelling up the A1 or the M1, that's not
03:48going to be great. Around the M25 indeed on Friday evening, a lot of spray, a lot of surface water on
03:53the roads as that band of rain finally moves through. It should clear away, although it may
03:58linger close to the south coast through the weekend. Overall, though, the weekend still
04:02blustery on Saturday, but not as windy as Friday. A mixture of sunshine and showers with most of the
04:08showers in the west. Largely dry day across much of eastern England on Saturday and most places
04:13looking dry and bright at this stage on Sunday as well. As I said, plenty going on. So make sure
